So maybe I’m blind, but occasionally when I go to turn off the car or something else, the screen says press the “checkmark” (shows symbol, not the word) to confirm. Where the heck is this checkmark I’m supposed to push? Can’t find it anywhere on the dash.

It’s the rolling thumb wheel on the right side of the steering wheel, you “push” it and that effectively is the “check”

If you haven't been doing it upon being directed to... and, nothing has happened, what difference does it make? I don't know; I'm just asking?

You are not alone. It was my first irritation when trying to set things up.
