So about 2 weeks ago I rec'd the first TPMS service error on my front driver left tire outputting 3 dashes for pressure (---). I needed an oil change so I took it to the dealership to kill two birds. Unfortunately the dealer doesn't have the Revolution machine to install the TPMS so I was out of luck until I could find someone locally who does. Fast forward to today and I've had no issues with the wheel other than no output reading - if I manually take a reading, the pressure was holding with the other three wheels. Also, intermittently the TPMS would come back on and off line during my drives - from my memory it seemed to go offline as temps approached 40 or below but just for that tire. I took it to Belle Tire this afternoon and they quickly swapped out the TPMS and I followed the instructions in the manual of driving over 12mph for more than 20 minutes or until it came back online. During that period the output reading for PSI was 0 in orange. When it finally exited this sync mode it went from an orange 0 to the three grey dashes again leading me to believe it wasn't the TPMS at all but something else. I thought maybe it needed more time to sync and provide an actual reading, but no dice after about 20 additional minutes. Just three dashes and it's 67 degrees here. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts? My initial reaction is just to take it back to the dealer and have them run another full diagnostics. I don't know if this was even completed initially during my dealer visit because they may have punted knowing they didn't have the ability to replace the TPMS.
Some additional details, I had about 1,250 miles on it when I received the first error message. It stays in a heated garage that maintains 60 degrees and the "tire temperature reading" for lack of better terms was a green "Normal *F" after the sync mode and additional drive in hopes of getting a reading.
Probably the sensor for that wheel is bad, not the TPMS.
Thanks for the response, and I don't pretend that I know anything. Other than the TPMS I didn't realize there was anything inside the wheel monitoring tire pressure. When you say the sensor for the wheel is bad is that an onboard (vehicle) computer issue or is there another sensor in the wheel/tire? Again thanks.
Between the time that the sensor worked without issues and starting having problems did you change cell phones or change where you keep your cell phone when driving? Cell phones are known to interfere with the TPMS receiver.
