Hello all, I took delivery of my C8 last night and love it. Unfortunately it was night time when I left the dealership and had to drive 60 miles home in the dark. If you have ever driven the interstates around Atlanta at night you can appreciate my reservations. Anyway, I noticed that headlights from cars behind and on my left totally overwhelmed the camera, turning the mirror into a distracting blob of white glare. I started to wonder if there was a protective film or greasy fingerprint on the lens. Also, as cars passed on the left, the mirror glass reflected a dazzling golden outline of the left edge. Is this what you are experiencing with your cars, or am I missing a setting that addresses this? Thanks for you input and observations.
You can adjust the brightness of the camera mirror. You can also adjust it's field of view (zoom) and tilt. See page 33 of the Owners Manual. You can also flip it to normal mirror mode.

Could have flipped the lever and had a conventional mirror. In 2+ months I mostly drive in the day time and would NOT have a C8 without the camera "TV view." Best thing since sliced bread, IMO!
I've never had an accident in 60 years with another car and knowing where all cars are around me is part of why- the other is Luck. However that meant looking in all mirrors all the time, particularly the center mirror to see the AH barreling up in the left or right lane that would soon be in my "blind spot." The one on the right lane thinking he is using you to block radar is the most risk as that AH will cut in front and weave in and out of traffic! With the wide view on the TV mirror really no need to use side mirrors it shows all cars from far back!
I felt the same way... Ok in the daytime - Although since I wear reading glasses it's not all that clear. At night - It's brutal and I switch to the regular mirror.

Do you have to adjust it at night, or does it auto-dim like an electrochromatic one?
It has automatic dimming in the normal mirror mode (not camera mode). However, with my camera mirror adjusted I've never had to change it for night driving. I've been using a camera mirror on my wife's XT5/XT4's for a few years so they are "normal" for me. It took me a little while to get used to using one, but now I love them. And, as I said (and Jerry said), you can flip it to normal mirror mode which is auto-dimming.

I agree that the mirror takes more than a little getting used to, especially at night with headlights behind you. As mentioned, work with the zoom and brightness controls to make it tolerable. As for the glare and reflections that come at you in addition to the video image, I've found that turning the mirror towards your face so that your eyes are "square" to it largely eliminates that problem. Note: If you adjust your mirror like this, when you flip the **** to "normal mirror" you won't be seeing anything out the back window. You'll be wayyyy out of adjustment for that to happen. Anyway, this has worked for me. Sorta.
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I did try all the adjustments that "Z" posted from the manual, but it did not really help much. I was hoping the camera had an auto-iris type function that closed down the lens a few f-stops, but then the whole image would likely be too dark. Being farsighted does not help either, as I don't wear glasses when I drive. Overall I really like the mirror and would not trade it. I just wanted to double check that I wasn't missing something, or the system had a defect. Thanks again!

I wear progressive eyeglasses that have reading distance that merges into a computer distance, then long distance areas. I found I just had to tilt the TV mirror to get it perfect for me. It's funny, when you tilt, the pic doesn't change, it's just like tilting a TV screen! But at the right angle it's in focus. It's possible I have subconsciously trained my eye and head to look though the right area!
Recall when I started to wear them 30 years ago had to train myself to look through the right area and be careful going down stairs. It's now automatic.
