What's with the white plastic things that stick out inside the grills? Every time I look at the car from the front and down the sides thats all I see. Couldn't they have made those pieces black to hide them? Guess I'll have to plastidip them.

Hmm. I don't have those grills. I was wondering what was up with mine. Mine is ugly looking with no grill hiding the screws and whatnot inside of the intake. I was going to ask what folks were doing to hide that and it appears that a grill was supposed to come from the factory already installed.

They're white because that is the color of your car. They are part of the connecting point between two body panels. Mine are Elkhart Lake Blue (and are therefore, not nearly as noticeable).
Have enough black powered coated aluminum mesh left over from my front AC Condenser protector install to make side grills. The Custom Car Grill Mesh I used (like many) has a high percentage air flow rate, more than most. Looked at one company making side mesh grills but their installation method requires the plastic mesh they use as it gets bent and springs back when installing. It does not use attachment fasteners rather springs behind a panel on one side and the small protrusions (the ones the OP is "complaining" about) on the other. Can't use that method with aluminum mesh. (BTW, best solution for the OP is not to look that closely!)
It looks like you could use a small "L" bracket and screws in two other spots. Have not decided if it's worth the effort or if it might do more harm than good! On the driver's side that large fan just blows air when the car is stopped to cool off the engine compartment. It runs occasionally for a few minutes when I pull in the garage. The driver's side on my Z51 does have the extra coolant rad but unlikely a stone will enter and tree levees etc will fall out the bottom. Not sure what the benefit of mesh would be AND leaves could accumulate on the mesh and block flow!

Even with the aftermarket grills installed it doesn't solve the problem as you can see in the first picture. You still see the white plastic bits as they are in front of the grills. I don't mind the openings without grills but the plastic white bits that pertrude are awful. I never noticed them on other C8s because they were a dark color. I will definitely make mine disappear with plastidip.

Gosh that would make them look worse, IMO! Just stop looking!
Hate to use this analogy but your comment reminds my of my view of Hustler Magazine! How close do you look before it becomes a medical student text!
PS: Just went to get something from the garage and looked at what you are referring to for the 1st time in the 3 months I've had my C8! Heck to see those two "protrusions" have to have your head down and within inches of the door! Crazy!
I don't know if it's because my car is white but you'd have to be blind not to see them. I'm standing at the front of my car my I took this picture. Not hard to see at all, come on.
I'm sure that it's one of those things that once you see it, you can't keep your eyes off of it. I bet that other people never notice it at all. as was mentioned, you really have to get at the right angle to see it even if you were looking for it. Stop looking at it! Lol.
Well, once I saw that black attachment screw on my ACY HTC, it was a never ending vision. It highlights an ugly look. It is a cheap look on a great looking car otherwise. Needs an eye pleasing fix and the grill seems to work for the most part.
