Default Passenger seat memory question

The c8 has a new feature of memory seat controls for the passenger. In reading the manual it looks like you can set positions for two people plus the exit setting. Does anyone know if these positions are recalled by the key fob or do you have to press and hold the 1 or 2 button on the door to change the seat position?

One fob is driver #1, the other is driver #2. You can store a driver position for #1 and #2 but only one shared exit setting.

The question is about PASSENGER seat memory though. I can’t find anywhere in the manual specifically about the passenger seat memory.

It would be nice if the passenger seat memory #1 location was automatic when DRIVER #1 started the car. So, for instance, if I am using key fob #1, I set drivers seat to memory #1 and my wife sets passenger seat to #1, when I start the car both seats would move to the correct position. If my wife uses fob #2, and her drivers seat memory is #2 and my passenger seat position is also stored in #2, when she is driving (with her #2 fob) both seats would again be in the correct position. I’ll just have to try it out when I get my car.

I always use the same key. The other key is in a drawer in the house. Yet is seems that my seat doesn't always go fully forward where I have it set. I think it's if I start the car before closing the doors or something. I have to then press and hold memory 1 button until the seat goes to where I have it set. Anyone else experience this ?

I cannot see a reason for the key fob having any affect on the passenger seat .Just a guess

How do you set the exit setting? (Not to hijack the topic, but related) I haven't been able to get it to work following the manual?

The set button for the exit is the one that isn’t numbered

Sorry, the passenger seat does not automatically move to the exit position when opening the door, nor move to the preset tied to the FOB when starting the car. It's a manual operation for the passenger no matter what settings are enabled.

I do not have my C8 yet but have downloaded the owners manual. I do not see any instructions for a passenger seat memory function. Are you sure you are not confusing the drivers seat memory that can be set for different people with individual memory settings??

Correct, you set the memory to the button, like in the driver seat, but it only recalls when you press and hold the button. I have not noticed if it moves to the exit button on shutdown and opening the door as the driver seat does.

I noticed that the car identifies the key upon entering, and directs you to use the identified key for any settings for the driver seat.
I like the black vector key and was setting the driver side memory to 1 but when seeing the car identify it as key 2, had to change my setting to 2. Now upon entering and starting, it automatically goes to my seat settings. It didn't when I had them stored in setting 1. Perhaps the same applies to the passenger seat?
I read that exit setting is universal to both seats, ie. on or off and same exit position.

Ok, I just did some testing with my very confused 14 year daughter, who didn’t understand what crazy thing her dad was doing.

The passenger seat memory buttons are just that. They do not function automatically nor do the fobs influence the actions. So if you want it to move to the exit position, you have to press and hold it. So I guess you technically have 3 independent memory positions. They do not care about fobs or opening the door after shutdown.

I have a 2020 2LT HTC, not that it should matter once you have memory seats.

This thread was very helpful. I was trying to get the passenger seat to automatically move to the exit position when opening the door. This thread cleared up my confusion in that the passenger seat only moves in reaction to button presses. It is disappointing that it does not repsond to key fobs as one could be programmed for when you drive and your spouse is the passenger and the opposite for the other fob. It is even more dissaponting that the passenger seat will not automatically move to the exit postion when the door is opened. I imgine that most people would like to have the seat move back for easier egress.

But to do that would assume that when you drive, your spouse is always the passenger, and when your spouse drives, you're always the passenger. If your spouse likes the seat far forward and all the way up, and you give a ride to a friend who is 6"6" tall, he might be pretty unhappy with the automatic movement. But I agree having the seat move to the exit position when the door opens should be pretty easy to do, and not have any adverse side effects.

Great point. I guess my disappointment should have been in my ability to think the problem through and not in GM. Yu are absolutely right about what would happen if you 6'6" friend got in the car and the seat returned to a position that was for a much shorter person. It seemed logical that they could at least move the seat to the exit position upon door opening. However, what would happen when a person got back into the car? The seat would need to be left in the exit position because again you have no idea if you are giving your 6'6" friend a ride. So now let's go back to the scenario when you most often have your spouse as the passenger and assume GM implemented the auto exit position upon door opening feature. In that case, every time the spouse got back into the car they would have to either move the seat or push a memory position button. I think most would just prefer to have the seat left where it is when they exit so they do not have to do anything when they return. GM got this right after all (IMO).
