Default Quick advice needed!

I am scheduled to take delivery tomorrow. The salesperson just called to say the check engine light is on steady. It threw a code for an Oxygen sensor. They reset and drove it 5 miles and it came back on.

The dealer is a few hours away. Should I take delivery? What questions or documentation should I get if I take delivery? Can a test drive give me assurances that this is an easy fix? Could it be a more serious problem?

Use your powers of discernment to make sure this is credible and not a ploy to separate you from the car that you wanted.

Take delivery. Then make them fix it, it's what the warranty is for.

Take delivery and then schedule a service appointment for them to fix it. They can probably even fix it when they prep the car for pickup.

I surprised they would deliver the car with a active CEL actually. I'd personally wait until they sort it out. Taking delivery may open you to exposure for knowingly operating the vehicle while it's triggering an issue. Which brings me back to why a dealer would even consider delivering a new car in this state?

I would take delivery and then take the time to have them figure it out. Its under warranty so I don't see the harm. Its not like a used car.

I would reschedule the delivery after the issue is fixed. I just feel it is a better start to begin your Corvette journey. You should not have to worry about picking up a brand new car. You will enjoy the whole experience more too.

Get them to fix it before delivery. They should be doing that anyway.

If it really is an O2 sensor (I doubt it's anything special), they should be able to have one overnight. I would delay the delivery until it is fixed.

I would go to the dealer to make your presence known but NOT take delivery until it is fixed. It is still your car with money on that allocation.

Just saw GM arguing they don’t have to pay for design issues, only workmanship. Not saying they would do that here but with that perspective, I would not trust them.

In NC is an emissions inspection part of the yearly state inspection? If so the car might not pass the emission inspection for them to do a proper delivery if inspection is required for delivery.

Probably just a loose wire on an O2 sensor. They probably have no techs there on Sat. Of course it is a big deal for you but just another day for them. I would go visit but don't plan on them working on it on Sat.

Good luck.

Sounds fishy, or just an incredibly inept dealer. Regardless, proceed with caution and good luck to you.

It will not pass inspection which is required for the sale.

Going to see the car will allow you to check it out and check the mileage, then get them to fix the problem, but that doesn't give them the right to put on another 100 miles.

Light duty vehicles 3 years old, or less, with fewer than 70,000 miles are exempt from an emissions test in the 22 NC counties that otherwise require them. 88 other counties do not require emissions test at all.

I guess it depends what “a few hours” away means. Why would someone drive several hours round trip twice to purchase the car and then actually take the car home?

Omg. It’s a brand new car with a warranty. Whatever is wrong, it will get fixed at no charge to the OP. Either at the original dealer or a different Chevy dealer. Nothing to be concerned about.

We know that, but the car should be given to the owner in full working condition without any issues.

I have no idea why they even called the OP to tell him that. Fix the problem first, then call the OP to come pick the car up as it is ready. Just sounds so unprofessional the way they are going about it.

Do they want the OP to tell them oh don't worry about it, I will waste more of my time to drop it off somewhere else? How these places stay in business is mind boggling.
