C8 Corvette Knocks Down Tesla Hype Machine Several Notches
Electric may be the future for the Corvette, but it’s a satisfying sight to see the C8 Corvette lay the smack down on upon a Tesla Model Y.Can you feel the electricity in the air? It seems like every day, another EV pops up on the marketplace. More than a few of these are high-performance machines, too. And with GM’s plans to go fully electric by 2035, it won’t be long until the C8 Corvette and its successors tap into the power grid, redefining performance once more.
And it’ll leave all those has-been Teslas behind, too. Not that the C8 Corvette isn’t already doing that today. Edmunds‘ Carlos Lago and Alistair Weaver recently pitted America’s sports car against the big, bulbous Model Y in a drag race. Let’s watch the Tesla hype machine get placed back in its line, shall we?
If it were against a model 3 performance it would've been smoked. Y is .6 slower than the 3. And the Y was right there.
Until you drive one? You'll never understand
and you need the perfect launch every time using launch control in the C8. The Y is a plant foot and gone every time. Wildest thing I ever owned.
From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

One could easily said “ they should have tested it against the upcoming Z06 or old ZR1, or this particular tire, or on a longer track.....” or whatever. They just tested it against what they had in their fleet and they’re both similar in cost and it’s not like these cars aren’t typically matched up together.
I fail to see the point of comparing 2 entirely different vehicles with 2 entirely different transportation missions...but, whatever.
Um, yeah, then why make a performance “SUV” if the mission is just haul bicycles to the trailhead, and commute to work in the HOV lane? It’s clearly intended solely for drag strip YouTube videos.
One is electric with no delayed drivetrain response, instant torque and all wheel drive and the performance spec clearly designed to impress people at drag strips, and the other is a base spec, 2wd, with a gradually increasing torque curve and a small transmission shift delay.
What my takeaway was that despite the base model and “ancient ICE drivetrain”, more complex and well appointed C8 build, over the similarly priced, yet simpler and more spartan Model Y, the C8 still beats it in a drag race. A road race would be no question, and we can assume by the way the C8 pulls from the Model Y at speed the gap gets bigger as the cars go faster.
This is why we don’t have an EV C8 right now. The ICE currently does everything better that the Corvette is designed to do.

A good friend of mine just bought the Model X SUV. It is loaded and went for $125,000. I drove it last week. It is ridiculously fast in Ludicrous Mode. It defies the laws of intertia, weighing 6,000 lbs and accelerating as fast or faster than the C8. We drove my C8 Z51 and that back to back. Hard to tell which is faster. If you stab the throttle of the Model X at 40 mph, the acceleration is instant and "electrifying". It will even drive you around in Autonomous mode. I came away very impressed but I'll take the C8.
Congratulations, this is the most pointless and useless article I've read all month. I like how you didn't even use the Model 3 comparison, you literally had to use a CUV to make the C8 look good.
