Default OEM Replacement Windshield

So I have defects in my windshield, and my dealer has ordered the OEM replacement. Anyone know how long this will take? It's already been over a week.

What a question! No one will KNOW the answer to that. It will get there when it gets there. Could be tomorrow or a week from now. Spare parts for these things are in short supply as they can't even get enough to keep the assembly line operating full time. I hope it gets there tomorrow for you. Who knows?

I'm curious as to what is wrong with your windshield? More GM "missing" an obvious flaw during production??? Thanks.

When I did my dealer sales training at Spring Mountain back in October they told us to keep 6 car lengths behind the car in front of you because it a rock were to fly up and crack the windshield I was the hardest part to get for a C8.

Was it OEM? Safelite does not do OEM unless you insist.

No aftermarket available at the time OEM only option , most likely not the case now.
Call your glass installer and check

@Avanti
I have two nearly horizontal exterior scratches into the glass. One is about 3 inches long and the other is more than an inch. The longer one is is just above the direct line of sight on the passenger side, the other is nearer to the center of the car on the passenger side. Neither is noticeable from the driver's seat as they are blocked from my line of sight by the rearview mirror. They became quite noticeable when the car was pulled into direct sunlight after weeks sitting undriven in the garage. There is no glass chipping or pitting like you would get from rock strikes. So there's no emergency in getting the replacement; just wanted an estimate of a timeline.

I hope things have improved since October. I shall see. Thanks!

My C8 HTC arrived at the dealership with a damaged windshield and it took over 2 months and fighting with GM to get it replaced. The windshield that came on the car from BG is the “Zora” version and both my dealership and GM Corp. said that it was not available as a replacement....they could only get a non Zora etched one. I filed a claim with GM and they gave me the same run around for over 2 months. Finally my dealer got my case escalated to the GM Brand manager who shipped one of the 180 they had to my dealer..,,,still waiting to get it installed. Still not happy being Lied to.

Wow! Another pathetic GM customer service story. Good luck to you getting a satisfactory solution in the end. Just hope that we don't get this kind of run around when we need more services on some replacement. I hope this is an exception rather than the rule, but from many comments on the forum so far, it doesn't add confidence.

I agree. I’m having mine done next month due to a small stone chip. Had it filled I initially to stop spread. Glass guy said only Available from GM. That may change in the future

These were hard to capture in photos, but are more apparent in overhead sunlight.

I hope thas occurred during shipping.

I'm not really worried about losing Zora as long as I get an OEM Replacement with a clean, no issues install. After my windshield was was inspected by the dealer, I took a rock that left a small chip--also on the passenger side. Better now than later.

my damage appears to be caused during the install at BG. The scratches are all equally spaced and of the same length and arc. There is also a lot of adhesive still left on the glass.

OEM windshields( non-Zora etched) are pretty well available.... I could have had one in a few weeks but when I spent $90k and waited 18 months for the car, I expect it to be exactly how it was built. Even my dealer was pissed that GM wasn’t being honest.

Good luck with your install....I’ll be having mine done in a few weeks.

This pretty much makes up my mind to get ClearPlex.

UPDATE: I had ClearPlex scheduled for next week and spoke with my shop on Saturday. They are no longer doing ClearPlex or any of the other coverings because they will not remain optically clear. They develop waves. So I will go naked until such time as something comes about that works.

Well I now have a final answer. My Service Manager called today and said my windshield had arrived. Made the initial claim three weeks ago today. Scheduled the replacement for day after tomorrow.

@Raven911 In progress. For anyone who's interested, I'm posting a picture of the replacement windshield--Zora inclusive. Note the pre-attached mounting clips in the upper corners and in the upper center for the rearview camera/mirror attachment. A-pillar covers are removed for the job.

OEM replacement windshield with Zora

A-pillar removed for windshield replacement
