Default Lightweight Engine Cover for Coupe

Could you save weight by making a simpler engine cover?
One that covers the engine of the coupe without glass and is flat in the rear like the HTC's engine cover.

Basically one that looks like this but for the coupe

It might be easier to see out the rear too.

Yes - I would miss seeing the engine but you could just open the cover.

With enough money you can do anything.. I think it would be daunting.

And the light weight engine cover will do nothing for performance.

I don't see how that improves visibility. You'd still the same size window behind the passenger compartment. Glass is heavy, so it would definitely be lighter.

It will likely worsen aerodynamics as well, although I do like the look of the HTC's.

One of the things I really like about the coupe is the glass window over the engine. Yes, I guess you could revise the hatch to eliminate the window, but not sure the change is worth it, at least to me.

Pitch any engine cover and save more weight... But seriously, unless you are going fully stripped for racing, it isn't enough to matter one way or another.

Exactly, what does the standard hatch weigh, 75 lbs.? And another one that has to cover the same area out of a lighter material, 50lbs.? Most owners could stand to lose 25lbs. off their fat gut.

Anderson Composite makes an exposed c/f rear hatch for the coupe if you are serious about weight savings.

Saves 17.6 lbs at a cost of $3999. Probably a lot better to spend that on lighter wheels which have the additional advantage of reducing unsprung weight.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Z06 and ZR1 used similar style - without the convertible mechanism (targa coupe roof) - to save weight and allow more heat venting. Tadge and company are probably don't want to repeat early C7 Z06 heating problems.
