Not sure if this has been asked before. Couldn't find anything from searching the forum, and a Bing search only results in touch up paint. But, I was wondering if it is possible for the average Joe to buy a pint or so of Corvette paint. I want to get the rocker extension panels, but want them body colored. I have a SATA gun and paint set up where I use auto paint to custom finish guitars. So I can easily paint the rocker extensions myself. I figure I'd add them to my order, let the dealer install them, then just remove them, paint them SF to match to car (as I am doing body color accents), and them put them back on. Is that doable?
Thanks in advance!
I'd think any commercial auto body supply shop could get the paint code and mix up a can for you.
Also, any automotive paint supply company can put your paint color in an aerosol can for your small jobs.
You may not want the dealer to install the rocker extensions as they are riveted on the bottom and two-way taped on the top. Just some friendly advice.....
I have used these guys for several of my Vettes. Their color match is excellent. They sell touch up bottles, spray cans, and bulk paint. Also have primers, adhesion products, and clear coat.

Hmm, this goes back ~20 years from when I had my Street Rod painted and wanted a small amount of each color. Just like when you go to Lowes etc to buy paint, they can match any color, so did the shop the painter sent me to who sells automotive paint. They don't BUY the manufacturers paint, they mix it from specs supplied by the paint company and GM! I'm sure it's the same today.
In my case, it was a special Silver color with two sizes of metalic aluminum flake as part of the mix. Minimum they could make was a quart, which I bought. Not cheap! Nope a body shop doesn't get paint from GM etc. They get it mixed locally!
Perhaps of interest. The "artist painter" who did my street rod masked the flames by hand. He added pin strips on some edges all done under the clear coat. Clear coat had to be put on within 24 hours of the base coat. Pic shows after masking the flames, the "pin strips" were made by spraying the flames black, applying 1/8 inch masking tape for pin strips. As soon as it was sufficiently dry (<hr) the Darker Silver flame color was sprayed! Myself with 3 others helped remove all the masking before the clear costs were applied!
Thanks for the suggestions. Just from all the pictures I have seen, SF is beautiful, and having the least amount of black on my car would be nice. From pics I have seen and the configurator, the black rocker extensions just look out of place. I think having them blend it would be nice. I plan on a lot of personalized mods and additions to my car. I'm on track for a July allocation with MM, so hoping to get my car in Sept or Oct.
