Hi All, New to the forum and am picking up my 2021 HTC at the museum in two weeks!! It's about a 700 mile drive back to NY for me. What's the consensus on using track wrap for the drive home from the museum? Any particular brand better then others?
Thanks!
Not sure about consensus on using track wrap for the drive home. I didn't use it, drove in the rain most of the way home and not a scratch on it when I washed it the next day. It's a car and won't stay perfect if you drive it. Why worry about it. I got my first rock chip driving on a country road when a truck pulled out in front of me and I couldn't get around it. Third day out. Now I don't have to worry about it anymore.
If you plan on getting the high impact areas covered with PPF, it makes complete sense to use track wrap for the trip home. I left the Tracwrap on mine until XPEL Dallas could install PPF. In fact, they removed the Tracwrap for me.
I just drove my C8 roughly 1000 miles from New Smyrna Beach, Florida to Columbus, Ohio. I bought a Novistretch Bra for the trip. It worked great! I had a few bug carcasses on the hood, but no paint chips anywhere. And the front radiators were unscathed. The bra was well worth the $159.
A number of my friends compete in car shows and some of them use the blue painters tape on the front of their car. They don't like bras because particles do get underneath the bras.

I can second the recommendation for the Xpel TracWrap. Used it for a 1,000 mile trip from Houston to Jacksonville. Blue painter's tape works well too, but I prefer the TracWrap.
Both are better than a bra because you can cover more of the front end in addition to the A pillars, front of the roof, and mirrors.
It's great that a few guys made it home without a scratch, but as was mentioned previously, if you plan on PPF, you want zero rock chips.
The unsolicited, totally irrelevant to this thread, comments about it being "just a car", are of zero value to your questions.

I could not agree more. I am blown away by the amount of people that do that in threads on this forum or adamantly disagree with another poster's opinion.
It seems to be coming from some of the more tenured posters. I have lurked for awhile and I understand why I did so - some people just can't help themselves so they prefer to be noise.

Dirt underneath the bra is certainly a possibility. You could also trap dirt under painters tape or Xpel track tape and scratch the paint finishing pulling it off.
I washed and throughly dried my car before putting on the Novistretch bra. As soon as I got home, I took it off. We stopped overnight in Greenville, SC. The pollen was horrible. It was so bad I had to clean the windshield before leaving in the morning. None of it, however, got underneath the bra. There were no bra lines when I got home. Now if I would have left the bra on for a week, it might have been a different story but for two days there were no issues.

I'll have to disagree with that statement. Any dirt trapped under painters tape or track wrap will NOT scratch the tape finish for a couple of reasons. First, there is no movement while the tape/wrap is on. Second, there is no movement when removing the tape/wrap, as you lift it up to remove it. Whatever was under it pulls right up along with the tape/wrap. My Tracwrap was left on for 2+ weeks. It was easily removed by the PPF installer without causing any scratches because it lifts away from the surface - no rubbing/sliding around involved.
I almost went with Zymurgy’s recommendation of trac wrap for our 1900 mile ride home from MacMulkin to South Florida. In the end I had received enough favorable opinions from other MM customers about Automotive Elegance, Xpel PPF installers, that I let them wrap the car front of the car before we picked it up. We took a Novi Bra with us and Vinny put it on in about 15 minutes. Between these two the car arrived home after 1900 miles without a scratch and the radiators were in pristine condition. Even if you go with the Trac Wrap, I highly recommend the Novi Bra as well.
