I'm still getting an HTC regardless of reported top mechanism problems. But sort of funny, the only sunroof I've ever had fail mechanically was also supplied by Webasto - on a 1979 Mercedes I bought new. I thought it was unusual that the Webasto name was prominently displayed inside that car. The only other non-Mercedes brand name visible inside the car was Becker on the radio.

If you're scared of that don't count the number of parts in your engine...

Yep. People have only been building power tops for what, 50 - 60 years or more? And every damn one of the breaks the day after the warranty expires.

Oh, wait, no they don't......

More details would be nice, but glad they fixed the car.

Top would go up ,once it was straight up and down it would bind on drivers side and could not fold up .Chevy tech said he found loose bolt that was hitting mechanism
stopping top from completely opening

Here's the thread on his problem: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...c-problem.html

Not sure why he didn't just update that one.

Not sure why the OP didn't post here, but his problem has been solved, and it was minor. Not a massive design flaw:

Hmmmm....this is very interesting and somewhat concerning.
My 2005 XLR was very reliable- except for the retractable hardtop. All of the position sensors failed and had to be replaced.

Guess I'll wait a little while longer to see if there are continued C8 convertible top problems.

If you guys think finding C8 repair technicians is tough......finding XLR repair technicians + parts was impossible!
GM discontinued part supplies. It's one of the reasons I replaced it with my C7 convertible.

Exactly. I've now owned FOUR Mercedes SLKs (a hard top convertible FAR heavier than the one on the C8) the mpst recent a 2016 SLK55. I've never had a single problem with the HTC on them. It is proven tech.

I'm more concerned with potential heat issues with the area above the engine not having quite as much room to breath.

Actually Tadge said it was easier to cool the HTC. Easier to control the airflow, force the air where you want it. With all the dead space over the engine in the coupe it’s actually harder to get the cooling air to flow exactly where you want it to. They are both able to accomplish it just fine, but he said it was easier to do in the HTC.

Yeah I saw that in the other thread. Souns aces. I probably shouldve elaborated that my concerns about heat issues are for the PPF I will have on the car. PPF on hoods is kept cool bc of air flow over hood. I know theres heat shielding and insulation but I'm still atad worried about the ppf on the roof not liking the heat. Or maybe the "self healing" Xpel will actually love the heat lol. Time will tell.
