With that said, Red Mist really pops in the sun. The metallic flakes are suspended higher giving a more deeper dimensional look. Also, with the different body panel angles, Red Mist can reflect light slightly different resulting in a rich red, hinting reddish/copper look. Don't be mistaken, it is not copper! In the full sun Red Mist is more of a Candy Apple Red which I have always loved.
Pictures of Red Mist will not do justice because of camera lenses and computer monitors will change the color, maybe due to the metallic. It's a color I recommend you see in person.
First of all: Color is subjective.
I chose Red Mist and never seen the color in person. I was comfortable enough to view many photos and read descriptions to make the decision. I am extremely happy with my decision and have received many compliments!
Torch Red has orange tint in it. It's not orange, but I am just saying there is orange in the red color. Also, torch Red does not have metallic flakes. It is a solid color and there is no additional charge for the color.
BTW: Those who say there is no orange in Torch Red, I can't argue with what you cannot see. People perceive color differently and some are limited to what colors their brains will pick up. That's another subject on its own.
I agree with Mike’s descriptions and with most of what has been stated above. I love red but to me there is a bit too much orange in Torch Red. I prefer some of the older reds such as Victory Red which have less orange in them. I have seen Red Mist in bright sun, in overcast conditions, and a dirty one at a car show while it was misting rain. In the sun, Red Mist is spectacular, but really loses the “pop” at night or when it is very overcast outside. When that happens it also takes on a bit of a burgundy color, which some don’t like. Torch Red is definitely eye catching under most conditions and it is hard to beat any bright red on a sports car. I will be ordering soon myself, and am still undecided as to which color to choose. I also agree about doing small touch ups on paint being much more difficult on metallic paints. I have used Dr. Colorchip and other such products on Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, Corvettes, Volvos, Nissans, and GM cars and the one metallic paint I did was the hardest to do with the least satisfying result.
Chose Torch red due to how easy it is to touch up. Have you ever tried touching up a metallic paint? Its a pain in the butt!
This is a good point. I have a magnetic red C5 (similar to red mist) and if one looks carefully, the paint on the front bumper doesn't match perfectly. (someone backed into it in a parking lot)
But there is something special about GM's 3 stage red metallics. On a sunny day, when the car is parked in the shade of a tree, the color just radiates with a deep inner glow - hard to describe but it "pops" in a way that torch red doesn't. But... it doesn't always have that effect. Highly variable depending on the lighting conditions.
well... you could, but i think that would just look mismatches. also you have to pay the color combo override.
I wanted the red/black two tone seats. Thought they went alot better with torch red so thats what I went with. Saw a few on the red mist and it doesn't look bad, just looks better on torch red.
Red Mist......, however......the appeal of having a red/red car makes a compelling case for Torch Red.
Can't go red/red with the Red Mist I don' think
I've seen two RM cars with AR interior and two-tone red / black seats. Looked great. I thought it wouldn't work, but after seeing it I almost wish that's what I had ordered.
