Default Qc hold

So after this long wait my C8 was produced Wednesday. I just checked with Shane and was informed it is on QC HOLD. Does anyone have any experience with this or know why it would be on Quality Control Hold? Thanks.

Mine arrived to MacMulkin wrapped in it’s white transport cover. It had 24 miles on the car instead of the usual 2-4 miles. When I asked about the extra mileage I was told that it must have been held for QC. They said that cars are pulled at random for QC but they could not tell me what the QC process actually was. If they drive the car around to put on the extra mileage I don’t know where they do it.

In my case it didn’t do me much good because they were not able to find the leaking transmission casing. Just venting!

During our tour of the factory a couple of years ago, we were told that they randomly pick a car for a 15-20 mile test drive to ensure the production is going well, and everything’s OK.

Been that way for quite a few generations of the Corvette.

It just adds up to a week to your wait. Perhaps more.

Probably not a bad thing to have your car QC'd at the factory if you think about it. Better than you doing the QC and finding a problem.

That was my original post. Apparently the QC HOLD didn't amount to much as the car was produced on June 9th and arrived at RHD, Atlanta 9 days later on June 18th with only 5 miles on it. I think it is a blanket code they use and it was just awaiting shipping. I drove it home 9 days after it was made - last Friday. Love the car. It's getting a paint correction, Expel Ultimate protective film, Revivify Ceramic coating, grill protectors, extended mud guards and some high gloss carbon fiber accent wraps right now. Should be done Friday, a week after I picked it up. Thanks for the responses and enjoy your C8's - It's a great car!

It needs paint correction straight from the factory?

Nothing out of the ordinary. The factory isn't going to make certain your car is perfect. There's imperfections that get "corrected". It's why you also don't want the dealer to wash it during PDI. They'll just make things worse in some cases, using towels, rags, sponges and who knows what else that has been all over everybody else's cars, so crap gets mixed into the water, etc....

My C-7 was in QC Hold for 2 weeks. Could not learn why. Still had to replace the dash for crooked stiching and the rear carbon fiber racing stripe at rear spoiler fo a pucker. Good luck!

Wonder about the same fate on my C-8 ordered 12/10.

I'm getting a courtesy delivery. I'm going to hope they honor my request to not wash it during the PDI.
I too will be taking it to my detailer right away for any paint correction that is needed. Probably very minimal.
Then I can put the protective film on and ceramic coat it. Then on the 100,000 miles of road trips. (looking good in the process)

QC hold could be simply routine, as some above said. It could also mean that they found an issue with your car during the final QC, and they will hold it until the issue is fixed. It could be something as simple as a piece of interior trim was crooked, or something more complicated like bad paint or body damage requiring a body part to be painted and replaced, or something as complicated as an engine defect. And you'll probably never find out what it is. I it turns into a long wait, Shane may be able to get some information out of the factory. I know of a couple of cases where he was able to find out what the issue was.
