Default Add oil?

Is it worth adding 1 or 2 ounces of oil when it shows 1/4" low on the dipstick?

If it's in the range you're good.

If I had an open bottle handy I might top it off, but I wouldn't bother otherwise.

No. If half way down maybe add a 1/2 quart, but foolish to add just a couple ounces to a system that holds 300+ ounces.

Anywhere between the high and low marks is OK, but if I were going to be running it hard I'd make sure it's at least halfway between those marks. As long as it's halfway or higher, no need to worry at all.

FYI on my HCI LS7, setting the oil level at the middle hole with oil at 180* results in the oil at the top mark at 260*, so with the heat the oil expands. I have the 10.5 quart system. The earlier C6Zs have an 8 quart system and it is known those should be tracked with the oil at the top mark at 180*.

I am not sure how much the C8 LT3 engine varies based on oil temperature.

I apologize for this somewhat off topic question, but does the C8 engine hold 10 quarts the same as the LT4?

And yet, when I did my own first oil change with filter, it took 8 full quarts to be full when fully warmed up and idling on level ground.

^^^ That's the best way, do the change, put in about a quart less, run it 'til it gets up to proper oil temperature and then check level per proper procedure and top off as needed. I wouldn't just pour 10.5 quarts into my LS7 without checking.
