I wanted to know if anyone has ordered on the GM Accessories the recovery hook. It’s $95. Is it a good idea to have it in case you need to get your car pulled. Is it something you keep stored in trunk until you need it or is this hook/loop stand out on your bumper? It says you can use it in the front and rear.
Most store them in the glove box, but you would also need a small flat screwdriver or tool to remove the cover if needed while out. Leaving it in doesn't do the looks any favors. Most that leave them in buy the "pretty" ones so they look cool. (at least in their eyes) Since you may never need it, why spend that much on it? This is a steel one piece for not much $.
I also have a set of V straps from my C7 days. I see no reason that it won't work. If anything, with the shorter nose on the C8, the V will just be further out in front and make it even easier for a flatbed operator to get it pulled on to the truck. This type of strap with the long V length will keep them from tearing off my carbon fiber front splitter....... hopefully !!!!
My V bridle with combo J and T hooks are about 60 inches long, so they were designed to work with the C7 long nose. Bought mine from an eBay vendor who was out of South Carolina if I recall. It's been since 2016 or so....
I keep my set in the rear trunk as they came in a microfiber zippered bag. NICE !
Phil , does it work front and rear? Some venders show 2 different lenghts.
I don't know and don't want to give bad information. At the same time, the factory one is only one length. I REALLY like the strap that is shown on this thread, that looks like a MUCH better solution to me. The tow hook covers are really tight in the bumpers and have a potential of breaking. The tow strap just goes into the factory tie down points and the belly of the car is as flat as Kansas so should work great.

I believe I have the same set as you..... mine are about 60" long on each leg of the V. It came in a nice zippered microfiber bag that I keep in the trunk of the C8.
I did try it out on my C7 several years ago, but haven't tried it on the C8. Don't see any reason it won't work. Hopefully, I will NEVER know.....

The problem I see with this set up is the opening diameter to receive a tow hook may be on the narrow side unless you add a shackle and the threads on this example are only 1.5" long which doesn't take advantage of the entire thread depth of the receiver.
This is the V-Strap I had for my C7. I don't have my C8 yet, so I'm asking those who may know if this would work on a C8.
Thank you
That will work. the holes under the car are the same elongated ovals. I believe it is the same as other American car manufacturers as well, but definitely will work on GM

Why is this overcomplicated? No need for fancy Racing drop down permanently installed for the 99% of us. Or have the risk of getting under (trusting Tow Operator) and properly applying a strap. Simple emergency item that works for Both Front & Rear stays in my Glove Box - JIC either Front or Rear get Crushed.

Have you removed either access cover yet? Get ready for at least one of them to break.

Hmm, the first few threads take most of the load. Think about the thickness of a nut! Thickness is often not even the diameter of a matching strength large bolt!

There are NO Points for Second Place. I always practice emergency procedures. Both plastic cover plates have been removed with NO Damage at all. As some on here will tell you, it is all about having the correct & proper tool. I don't belong to the Bigger Hammer philosophy group. A dedicated plastic tool is kept with the tow eye.
BTW, if you realized by looking at the picture of the rear, I already had. In case you needed to see the front too, here it is. Both were previously posted on a previous tow eye thread.
Both Pictures are of same Tow Eye - Only 1 is needed. The Blue Goes Great with the Orange.
