Default Track wheels

I took the C8 to the track Friday and had a blast, but the tires took a pretty good hit and I decided that I want to have a set of track wheels and tires so that I can keep the track wheels in the corner until track days and I can also have a "good" set of tires with the Corvette wheels for the rest of the time. That also gives me the opportunity to inspect the track tires before and after every track day so I don't try to run with bad rubber. That left me with a couple of questions:

First: can somebody please give me the correct dimensions for the wheels? I need to know correct width and offset for the 19s and the 20s. I'm not sure how to find that and I have NO idea how to measure it.

Second: can somebody recommend a good brand of reasonably priced wheels that would be light and robust enough for the track?

Your help is sincerely appreciated!!

Lumps of scrubbed rubber are stuck to all four tires

There is still plenty of tread but the tires are slightly lumpy with the scrubbed rubber.

That's not destroyed by any means. Those clumps will come off during normal driving. I was more thinking the tires got corded along the outer edges due to not enough camber.

@gbf_98070 - I agree with @theclutch comments, your tires look to be in good shape after your track day and still have lots of tread with no "chunking" and wear seems even across the contact patches.

The "clumps" of "other people's rubber" (OPR) on your tires is common from Track and Autocross use and will wear-off with some street driving or at your next event.
We have been using our stock PS4S (Z51) tires with the as-delivered alignment for local Autocrosses and we often get the same OPR "clumps".

So your tires still look good... keep running them and don't worry too much until the tread grooves (especially on the outside edges) are worn down until almost smooth/bald.

Also, since your are thinking of another set of wheels, other C8 Autocross drivers have been down-sizing their rear wheels to 19-inch diameters (be sure wheels clear the rear brakes) to improve the available sizes/brands of performance tires to select from.

Good luck with your Track Days and Happy C8 motoring!

-Rick

You gave those tires a pretty good work out. How did you do on the track? Time good, or more just having fun? Would love to hear your first hand thoughts on how the car did around the track, straights, corners, breaking yada yada. Temps stay good etc.

I've autocrossed and been to the Ron Fellows with my Z-06, but I'm still a learner. I drove with an instructor and we passed one person but pretty much everybody else passed us. I'm still figuring out how much power is safe to use. I do feel like the car is very controllable. I was getting some 1G plus accelerometer reads and it felt like there was still plenty of grip, but I could certainly hear the tires working. I'm 75 years old as of last week and I've done a lot of fun stuff in my long life. Tracking the C8 is as good as it gets!

As far as the temps, I never saw above 215 on the oil temp, which is pretty low since I ran 8 times for 20 minutes per hour and as flat out as I knew how. Water temp was also quite low. I never experienced any brake fade. I have the standard pads.

@gbf_98070 I ordered a set of Aerolarri true forged wheels in 18/19, stock width to meet autox rules. Plan to run 265-18 and 315-19. More tire choices and cheaper too!
