Road Hazard Result
Hmm, if you're referring to my post above yours "I did say having Mag Ride in Track will not cause wheel breaks." BUT that wasn't from the Internet it was from an "Ask Tadge" Forum Post, quoting, "I have heard from some people that there is a theory that running the car in sport or track can contribute to damaging a wheel. That is not true."
AND I agree can't trust the internet except my 100+ page website re welding etc! But unlike some, I do believe what Tadge says if you carefully get past "Marketing Speak" and what GM lawyers washed in his posts! In that case, he brought that up (it was not part of the from member question) in a long post where he did say there were more wheel failures, which he attributed to roads getting worse and the higher percentage of wide wheels than in the past. In fact when the C7 Grand Sport was introduced most of the Z51 buyers (like myself) bought the Grand Sport. We didn't need/want a supercharged engine but wanted the wider tires to get better traction and larger brakes.
That happened but it was still traction limited off the line. What I love about the C8 is even those skinner 305 versus 335 tire it is not! 60% static weight on the rear wheels (probably 70+% at launch does wonders! BTW, my tire needing replacement was due to a nail near the sidewall NOT hitting a pothole. We're further East than you in the State Capitol and don't have pot holes.
SIDEBAR (for those in SC)
We have an additional benefit re our roads. Hugh Leatherman, who is 90, is still a major force in SC Politics. In fact Nicky Hailey, when Governor, tried to have someone beat him when he ran for reelection! Didn't work! He was in charge of the SC Senate Finance Committee and recall, as the SC Governor has line item veto on budget items, Hailey struck down some 270 of 300 items. He got all but a few overridden! Yep we have a great friend in Hugh! Here is his background (from Internet source) and why he can get Republicans and Democrats together on financial issues.
Leatherman orchestrated the Republican takeover of the South Carolina Senate in 2001. Prior to 1996, Leatherman was a Democrat. Like many southern Democrats in 1994, Leatherman changed parties during the Republican Revolution. Leatherman has been criticized by fellow Republicans for his willingness to work with Democratic lawmakers.
Leatherman has been a driving force behind a lot of South Carolina's economic development projects since he joined the South Carolina General Assembly. He negotiated the deal to bring Boeing to South Carolina in 2009 and secured funding for the deepening of the Charleston Harbor in 2011. Leatherman currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee.
When we moved our business headquarters to SC in 1985, had lunch with Hugh who convinced me to give an arc welding robot to the local tech college. That program was only graduating ~12/year has ~125 welding students now.
