Still apples and oranges. Two seater vs 4 seater, coupe vs sports car. I classify sports car as two seats and throw in the Porsche since it's back seats are useless.
Interesting video. But while the Corvette is a beautiful design, the hideous front nose of the BMW would keep me from ever owning one. And bear in mind, I am a serious BMW fan. I have owned 10 BMWs in my lifetime and love my current 2019 540xi; my wife loves her 328xi. I also sold BMWs and MINIs in my "early retirement" phase between 2007 and 2014, so I am knowledgeable about the cars and how well they drive. But the new nose on the 4 series is universally hated by most BMW owners. With this front grille, BMW is well on its way to having the giant Hoover vacuum cleaner noses of Lexus, Audi and a few others. If this schnoz migrates over to the Five series, I will have already bought my last BMW. --Bob

People will cross shop cars with similar performance regardless of the number of seats. Number of doors seem to matter more to people. Nissan GT-R has very usable back seats.
BMW lost me on styling for quite some time. That’s the only reason I don’t consider them at all.

I came into the C8 out of a fully loaded rear-drive 340i. The 3 and 4 series BMWs are very nice cars. They are fast, handle well, and generally are very capable. The twin turbo straight six is a great performing engine, with a very wide power band. Having a front engine and a front transmission, however, the handling of the BMW 3/4 series is not even in the same league as mid-engine cars, including the C8. I don't understand how he says that the C8's feedback is not as exciting as the BMW. My C8 has much better steering feedback than my 340i had, and I never got excited about driving the BMW. I find the C8 way more exciting to drive, and I am always looking for excuses to jump into the driver's seat. Moreover, I like the C8 interior way more than BMW interiors, though the M4's seats do look really nice.
BMW AWD version is coming out and the tuning potential of the S58 is goimg to be bonkers.
I think the M3 actually looks better with this gen. But yes, different cars for different purposes. The BMW would be a better daily and vehicle when you need more than 2 seats.
A M4 is a hotted up version of a 430i. A Corvette is a Corvette. My wife does Pilates with Carrol Shelby's niece. I thought the GT350 was pretty cool but you have look closely to differentiate it from the bazillions of 5.0 GT's om the street.
Having owned an M2 I don't think there's a comparison, the lack of reliability and negative perception of owning a BMW in addition to the lackluster performance and driving experience really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Some good stuff in this thread. And some hilarious things as well. Saying people shouldn’t cross shop these cars is confusing at best. People want a fast car that looks a certain way and will narrow that list to 2-6 cars or whatever number of candidates. I haven’t had a fast car since my 2000 FRC that I got rid of in 2012. And that was only around 360 hp and similar tq to the tires. Granted also only 3100 lbs. So in my search for my next fun car finally, I started with C6 ZR, C7 Z06, C7 GS, 718 Cayman GTS, and maybe Supra. I’ve since eliminated the older Vettes due to C6 tech and cause they’ll all end up loud enough if I mod them the way I want them that my girlfriend won’t want to ride in them on road trips. And the car will be for road trips. Not a DD. Weekend fun. I’m looking for a fast GT type cruiser.
So I was kind of down to C8 and 718 GTS. I decided the GTS will surely be too slow even modded to 425/410 to the tires. Then i started looking at M4 Comps just a couple weeks ago. I pretty well eliminated the GTS and am down to M4 and C8. And quite frankly the M4 is winning the battle. I’m not gonna punish the M4 for weighing 3800 when the C8 is so fat. Nor will I punish either car for the lack of manual transmission. Cause it’s a wash. I want a fast car that I can mod as I want to. The M4 grill won’t bother me cause I want black in both cars to hide things like the grill and butt and vents I don’t like. I despise the C8 rear and the door thickness and the wall of buttons, the side intakes are way to deep and not integrated with the car like a 488, and the layers on the dash make me crazy.
I want a simple, nice, executive type interior. I’m certainly interested in the C8 performance wise, but I’d like to have something truly faster outside of a dig, and beyond the 1/4 mile. I won’t track either car so the handling of either will be sufficient. I always said I wanted a 2 seater. But the lack of storage in the passenger compartment of a C8 is a factor. The storage it doe have being able hold 2 golf bags is silly to me. It’s a 2 seater. With a mid engine. The back is too long. So the M4 is better in a few ways. And quite frankly putting down 625/625 on pump 93 with a downpipe, intake, and conservative tune or JB4 is very appealing. Not to mention it will do 575/575 with just a JB4 on 93. For me the M4 at 575/575 for $800 is a winner and likely as fun for the way I’ll use it m, as the C8 with some bolt ons and 510/490ish.
And the M4 will be cheaper the way I’d spec them both. Buy in is $83k on the M and $86k on the C8. And mods for the M will be cheaper. Headers, cats, Carbon R intake, throttle body, and Halltech intake is gonna be a pretty penny on a C8.
Its closer than you think for a certain subset of buyers.
And there’s a thread on the G80 forums with guys saying the C8Z vs M4 CSL will be a tough call. And maybe advantage C8. So these cars and variants will be cross shopped by some

Exactly,
The M4 looks like a Mustang that was beaten with an ugly stick... Plus the general profile is similar to cars like a Honda Accord Coupe, Lexus RC, Q60, Camaro etc... The C8 looks exotic like a Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren etc... This is so obvious...
A friend had an M4 (older generation) and offered me a ride home from Bridge Night. (I lived walking distance and had walked over). Another friend got in the back. With the pax in the back, I was unable to get into the front passenger seat! I walked. He eventually got rid of the BMW for an Acura SUV
