Maybe I am missing something, but I cannot get my phone volume loud enough. When I have the top down, even with the windows up, I need to pull over to hear the person on the phone through the car system. I crank the volume on the phone, and I crank the radio volume that then shows the phone volume on the info screen as full blast. But I can barely hear the person on the other end. It has been multiple phone calls, different people and phones.
Is there any other adjustment? In my C7 I could go down the highway with the roof off and windows down and have a conversation on the phone through the car. In the C8 I can't hear it at 30-40 mph with the windows up...
Unfortunately, I do not have my C8 just yet. However, on my 2021 Trailblazer, the infotainment center is very, very similar, if not exact. The phone volume can only be adjusted while in use. While ringing, or while talking, the volume buttons on the steering wheel are used to change the volume. It gets trickier on the guidance volume, since the commands are quick. You have to be ready and anticipate.
I've noticed something strange. I always have my iPhone set to max volume but after I get home from a drive where it linked up to my car via Bluetooth the volume setting on my phone has turned itself almost all the way down. I read a post a while back about someone with the same problem but can't find it or if he found the problem/solution.

this a GM thing. My Silverado and C8 do the exact thing you are describing. I have to remember to adjust the phone volume once I leave my vehicle. It is very frustrating as I am missing calls because I often forget

I wonder what causes that??? I'm sure there's a work around if someone can just figure it out. Same problem here...if I don't remember to check my phone and turn the volume back up I miss calls.
I have no issue with phone volume, ringer or voice, with my Android phone. Nor does the volume get lowered when I get out of the car. Have you tried the suggestion in post #5?

Maybe there's something about an Android that doesn't let that happen? I don't see a suggestion in post #5 related to resolving the problem @Day11 or myself are experiencing.

Figured out that my phone wasn't connecting through CarPlay. Fixed that, and now the phone comes through Apple CarPlay loud and clear with plenty of volume to spare at highway speeds with the roof & windows down. When I turn CarPlay off and bluetooth the phone, it is barely audible at 30-40mph.
Not sure why bluetooth is so quiet, but glad I can hear the phone through CarPlay when needed.
