In order to engine in a convertible with the top up, you have to cut a hole in the back deck and have a hole or clear panel in the engine bay cover. To make it visible down, and you would have to cut a big hole or clear panel in the roof and headliner.
I look forward to the first guy doing a video recording of this Sawsall activity!

That will certainly be a fun part of the instructional video!

It wouldn’t need to go that far. If a finished surface was created replacing the black plastic deck (circled in yellow) with a window, that would be sufficient to show it off at car shows and friends..about the same as opening a hood at a car show. Though of course the convertible fuel rail covers are not as interesting (or as bulky) as the coupe.

if that is all you want to achieve, just take the cover off.
Someone figures that out it would be a home run. My impression is if it were simple GM would have done it or provided it as an option. But 20+ years ago I painted my calipers on my C5 red. I was at the museum and Dave Hill was looking at the car and taking pictures, asking questions, etc. No C5s had the painted caliper option........ until a year later when the Z06 came out. I'm not claiming I "invented" painted calipers........ but always thought it was an interesting occurrence.
You guys crack this challenge with a quality product that can stand the stress in the rear end......... I'd beat butt to Detroit to peddle the product to GM.
Whatever replaces the existing heat shield will also need to protect the folded top from heat. Yes, there is heat shielding glass. How well can you see through the window in your stove?

The "fuel rail" covers are just that, plastic covers. I could care less to see a molded plastic cover. Give me a Ferrari 430 style look at the actual ENGINE and I'm in. Hopefully we'll get it on the Z06 coupe.
The engine is butt ugly! I can't imagine why anyone would want to show it off. These certainly are not Ferrari's where what you see under glass is a real engine. If you want to show off a plastic cover that conceals the engine and is painted up fancy, get a coupe.
I love our HTC exactly the way it is.... and our Ferrari too!

I never said it was what I wanted to achieve. I was responding to the idea. Beyond that, if it was, I'd still want some kind of heat shield / barrier between the engine and the roof of my interior.

Sorry, I meant the plural you. Not the singular you. Also if it was just for the show, take it off, put it under the car, and put it back at the end of the day. problem solved. I am not sure if people have thought this all the way through. All the expensive heat resistant, and thermally insulative materials that are also not fragile. It maybe be a lot more expensive than people want. Plus you would nee dress up parts for the engine, as the naked engine is not pretty, it is functional.
What rear mid-engine hard top convertible can one see the engine in? I would like to see the engineering that went into it.
