I placed an order for a corvette in April. The dealer mentioned it would be most likely a 2022 model, but put it in as a 2021. He informed me a couple of months ago that it would have to be reordered as a 2022. I asked him when I could schedule an appointment with him to reorder. He says that he will tell me. I am number 21 on this dealer’s list. It has since been a couple of months. I asked him if he had any ideas regarding his allocations. He said he doesn’t know. I’m wondering if I will ever get a car from this dealer at this point. Am I being unreasonable in asking for some sort of expectation for when I could know something?
Given your spot on his list currently, and that he said you’d get a 21 from a spot in April, I think he might just be blowing smoke up your ***. Couldn’t hurt to get in a deposit somewhere else.
I have deposits at 3 top 10 dealers to hedge my bets, but I’ve also put my name in with a handful of smaller local dealers that did not require deposits. I strongly suspect that the deposit-less dealers do not simply go down the wait list, but rather hand pick those that receive the allocations. One dealer mentioned the different specs that many high up employees and friends of the owner had for their vettes, and another mentioned that a customer was trading in a 2021 for a 2022, despite claiming that their wait list was over a year long. I gave them my info, but I’m not holding my breath. If you don’t have a deposit with this dealership, I’d move on and maybe you get lucky and they actually do call you, but I’d feel a lot more secure if I also had a deposit or two with the high volume dealers that aren’t going to risk word getting out that they’re giving preferential treatment.
Also worth mentioning that the dealers that required deposits did give general time frames. If a dealer is totally unwilling to share any info whatsoever, I wouldn’t hesitate to put my name on their list, but I wouldn’t give them a deposit.

gave them the deposit back in April. I’m inclined to pull it at this point. I have an itch I need to scratch. I haven’t had anything fun to drive since I sold my Maserati GT a year ago now. I may just buy a C7.

unless the deposit was large, I would probably leave it at the dealership and simply send a deposit or two to the more dependable and communicative dealerships like MM and ciocca to hedge my bet.

Yea, nothing like taking 2-4 places in line at different dealerships for one freaking car.

why does it matter? As soon as I get an allocation my name will be off those other lists. It doesn’t cause anyone else to have a longer wait, and the dealers are going to sell their cars regardless, they don’t care.
