Probably depends on where you live. In our rural area with few shoulders and those that exist are only pebbles etc.. They get pulled up on the road. It takes more than splash guards to stop pebbles thrown from the front tires marking rocker panels.
For my C6 installed large contoured body color painted splash guards. Not available for my 2014 Z51 and installed GM Splash Guards front and back. Rear's worked fine as behind the fender is short and tucks in. The fronts did little and GM knew where the issue was, they installed clear plastic protection over the rocker panels from the center of the door back in front of the rear wheel well. That plastic was marked in one month. Bought full length aftermarket side skirts and it stopped all marking (and was able to remove the GM plastic.)
For my 2017 Grand Sport ordered the Stage 2 Aero option that came with full length side skirts. Stopped all pebble marking.
For my C8 ordered GM splash guards before it arrived. Had ordered aftermarket side skirts but they took 2 months to arrive. In that 2 months lots of marks on the rockers some pretty far back, Rears were fine as expected. Fortunately my aftermarket side skirts fully covered all previous marked. Have had then installed for 10 months and not another mark.
Here are some pics:
Good example of where the issue can occur. This is a Tracker who shows where the Track Rubber hit his car!
My C7 Carbon Side Skirts protrude ~3 inches and stop all pebbles hitting the rockers. Unlike the OEM side skirts that require drilling a 3/8 hole in the rear fenders AND a 3M adhesive applied all along the thin upper edge these only require rivets (as does the GM) under the rockers and one OEM bolt.
I went with the GM version and I like them. They offset the red and look good with the GM side skirts. I take my cars to a place where I get them hand washed and they love tire shine. So much so that a day or two after a wash I end up wiping it off the sides of my cars. These splash guards actually catch it - another plus!
I haven't hit 3000 status yet on my order. Should I get ones that GM offers? What comes on this car as stock splash guards? I assume they're inadequate?
I'm not going to track it if it matters.

The stock version is just a plastic piece behind each wheel. It will protect the fender lip but nothing outside the lip. Thus stones can get tossed back to the fenders. I don’t have z51 tires but on my c7 the tires were super sticky firing rocks everywhere. Is that true on c8 performance tires too?
I don’t like the looks of the splash guards but you get use to them. It’s cheap insurance, every little bit helps.
I went with GM factory ones painted by RPI... I wanted them to blend in and not take away from my carbon fiber ground effects
Same here. I have a red mist coupe and got the body color painted guards from RPI. Like this poster, I also have the 5vm style rocker extensions, and they go great together.
I went with the extended ones from EOS (extreme online store). Carbon flash matches my door boomerangs, rear grill intakes, carbon flash dual racing stripes and the rest of the CF trim perfectly. The extra lip provides more protection than stock for sure and they look great. I’d recommend them.
I went with the factory ones. They look nice, and I favor OEM. Aftermarket suppliers are absolutely way over priced. I could buy a stove for the price of four little pieces of ABS.
Appears they are on constraint right now. But OEM are available from the usual parts suppliers. A bit cheaper, a bit more inconvenient. Mine will be direct-shipped to the Museum and installed as part of their PDI. $25 well-spent…
Had them on my C6’s and C7. A must for a DD, I’d say…

i agree with the installation during PDI. Had my splash guards sent to NCM and let them handle it. Also cost me $25. I think the rear tires may be tight enough clearance that they could be removed to make it easier. NCM did my 5VM kit install also. Between that and the splash guards install - best $175 i spent on the delivery experience for sure.
I bought the original GM brand splash guards for my new 2022 C8 on eBay for about half the cost of what Chevrolet wanted to charge me when I was customizing my new C8.
Chevrolet's price is $255.00
GM part numbers are: 84263457 (rear) and 84263453 (front).
Good luck.
