Default Side radiator grill inserts

Are radiator grill inserts worth getting? What is your experience with the C8? To me, they look good. Are they effective? Worth the price?

Yep! The experience I had with my C6 reinforces one need. When about 6 months old was in town driving slowly and a hole occurred in the AC Condenser. The gas and oil came out. Brought it to the Chevy Dealer and they looked and said yep there is a hole and GM won't cover as it was probably caused by a rock. Like a paint chip, not covered on warrantee. Paid $800 for a new condenser and install. Bought an aftermarket protector for the new condenser. Yep been an issue forever and "Protectors" have been available.

Fortunately when I got the failed condenser home proved it was a defect from when the rad was install and got the full $800 refunded.

I like others installed protective mesh from Custom Car Grills on my C8. It flows 77% and is the least restrictive I found. Been installed for 11 months and has gone though 100+F heat this summer. Coolant still ~180 F.

Here is a PDF with many pics and detailed text of each step: http://netwelding.com/CF_Splitter.pdf

PS: Just thought you "may be" talking about the side rad that is ONLY behind the passenger side Rear Fender Scoop. You'll see in my PDF, I bought the 16" X 48" mesh which has enough material for the two side AC Condensers, the two small sections in the center AND if you want the two for the rear fender scoops. However unlike the AC condensers in front of the coolant rads in front the one coolant rad in the passenger side fender scoop is not likely to get a hole from a rock. Also I get no debris building up in that area so have not make them. The drivers side fender scoop does not have a rad, only a fan to remove heat from the engine compartment when stopped. When hot out, it does run for ~5 minutes when I park the car.

After a hole was found in my C6 Condenser, not covered by GM because it was "probably" caused by a rock I installed an aftermarket condenser rad protector. Fortunately was able to prove it was dropped by the GM condenser vendor or at BG and that is what cased a dent that ultimately failed! Was refunded the $800 paid for the new one.

My install with no black plastic ties visible. My PDF covers the easier approach using a few plastic ties that are visible and the more complex way to install with the plastic ties hidden behind the center grill bar that has to be removed.

Does debris even have a direct line of sight into the SIDE ports? I would protect the front for sure. Not sure if the side needs it. Less likely but it couldn't hurt.

My thoughts as well. I might just get the side grill covers. I installed the front grill covers as soon as I got the car and I am happy with them.

This is one concern AND I have left over mesh material. I see and clean bugs and leaves from the front mesh. I have seen none in the only area of concern, the passenger side that has the extra cooling rad. If I add mesh might have to clean the debris, like leaves I don't now.
