Checking the oil - C8 Convertible
Unable to open tonneau cover on my convertible to the check oil. I followed instructions on page 37 of owner's manual. Engine idling, top and trunk closed, vehicle in park. Using the key fob, I depress the lock button followed by depressing and holding the convertible top op button. Tonneau cover doesn't open, Any suggestion on what I could be doing wrong? Going out will check back for any responses on return, Many thanks to this forum

Engine has to be off, it’s a dumb system. I use the switch in the door and simply release it after the tonneau opens, get out, check oil, get back in, close the tonneau, and then shut off the car.
Just checked this again on my 2021. Put the top up. Remote start the car. Now the engine is running. Push lock again and then the top button, Tonneau opens. Check oil. Push lock again and then top button. Tonneau closes, and engine shuts off. While I am not sure that extra pushes of the lock button are necessary, it did not seem to respond until I did that. In any case, it can be opened with the engine running.
Thank you 16falcon, While at idle, I used the switch in the door to open the tonneau to check and them close it. Then turned of motor.
and Andybump. Used your instructions and they worked too.

I was under the impression that the motor had to be running in order to get an accurate check of the oil level since checking it cold would give an inaccurate reading

Interesting that you said that you could close the tonneau with the engine running, the first step in the manual says it must be off:
Closing the Tonneau Cover — Engine Access Function
1. Make sure the vehicle is off
Guys, it's not rocket science. With the engine running in park, top up. Hit the top down button until the tonneau cover is sticking straight up. Check the oil, then either continue to put the top down or put it back up. done.
