Default Usb flash drive

I've had my 2LT C8 for about a month now and I have songs that I've copied from various sources on a flash drive plugged in the USB jack. Everything worked as it should the first few times time I tried it, but now it doesn't always recognize the flash drive the next time I start the car. Gives a message on the screen "no device found" (or something like that). I can reseat the flash drive and all is good again. It may be ok for a few more times on restarts, but than fail again. Reseat the drive and it will work again.

Anyone else have this problem or any ideas why mine does this?

It will do that in my C7 too. Everything is fine when I shut the car off, but when I restart sometimes, it is not found.

I have found that if I let it go for a minute or two, it recognizes it and starts playing normally.

I was having the same problem. The other day I got it working finally. I believe my solution was formatting the flash drive to NTFS and then making sure all songs were MP3 format. I tried other options but kept getting No Device Found. I started with one album until I got it working and then started adding more. I now have folders of artist and subfolders of albums.

I continue to have this problem on my 2020 using high bit-rate FLAC files. It works fine, but then sometimes isn't recognized after certain engine re-starts. Using the navigation system (and therefore the NAV SD card) seems to trigger it also. I don't think it's a format or formatting issue. It's just got glitches.

Another issue is that my PDR is not over-writing old files even when set to do so. I've had to manually delete files to make more room.

Is the write protection slide button on the SD card set to write protect?

There are several Threads on the subject of the NAV SD card sending a message of SD Card Removed (when it's not!) Lots of attempted fixes, dealer's replacing car reader, even some of my own- did not work! Z06DevilCar found and tested a solution. I found it 99% effective. Basically the USB and NAV Card are using the same buss. When initiating, if the USB has songs >160 kbs there can be a conflict. Turns out about a 1/3 of my 1000 songs on my Thumb Drive where above 160 kbs! I was getting that NAV Card Removed message on the center screen about 1/3 the time!

I had zero issue for about a year as I was NOT using my Thumb Drive only the free XM. When I started to use my Thumb Drive from my C7s the issue started.

This is a summary of what was found and my solution to change all songs over 160 kps to that level very easily; http://netwelding.com/NAV_SD_Card_Error.pdf

Daughter suggested I could change the kbs rate with a free open office program Audacity! Turns our you can also safely rip any YouTube song with the program!

What's funny, there is a quirk with the program that avoided having to go and change songs individually (which would be a PIA!) When I loaded my ~1000 sounds into Audacity noticed all over 160 kbs were reduced to that level automatically! Those lower stayed lower. So I just copied that file and put it back on the Thumb Drive! I have my sound system starting in shuffle mode when I start the car. It will often say no USB detected for 15 seconds or so then it starts playing!

A lot depends on the amount of memory. Usually, the manufacturer indicates in the car operation book the maximum volume your radio can play. I have this maximum volume of 4 GB. If I insert 16 GB, the audio system does not perceive it. And accordingly, such a flash drive will not be considered. Or problems with the drive may be due to an incorrect file system. Usually, the file system supported by car radios is FAT32. If your USB flash drive has any other file systems, such as salvage data, the music will also not be played.

^^^
Since you pulled up this old Thread, I'll comment as although I mostly solved the issue outlined with a PDF Link solution I still have both issues.

For the NAV SD Card Error, I was getting that about every 1/3 the time I started once I began to use my USB for music. It never happened when I was using Sires XM for the 1st year and did not have the USB plugged in! I now get that message (post #6) about 5% of the time. Was solved by reducing the max bit rate for my 1000+ songs on the USB.

Occasionally I do get a delay in the music starting. Usually it stats paying in shuffle mode when I start the car. About 15 % of the time I get no USB connected. But 99% of the time that 15% will start in a few minutes all by itself. A few times I did have to remove the USB and reinsert.

It, like the NAV SC Card is probably due to the buss being used for both.

^^^ This is the only unresolved problem I've had after 14 months and almost 8,000 miles. Still get this message on occasion, with or without the USB plugged in with my audio files. Haven't had the dealer investigate since it's impossible to get it to act up to demonstrate.
