Typically, we'll do a group of 3 to a lead/follow, but on occasion, we do 2 to 1.
We get folks from all walks of life, experience and skill sets. I remember teaching a gentleman in his 60's, whom had no prior experience on track at all, just a first time corvette owner who had only driven his car from dealership to his garage and parked it. Wanted to learn the car before he took it on road trips.
He was very intuitive, and a great listener. Very quiet....so much so, that I asked him, Are you having a good time? Are there any issues? He said he was having the time of his life, he said, and was just trying to absorb as much as possible. At lunch before day 2, I actually had to start downshifting while leading his group, and with him behind me, he pushed me to my 7/10ths....He was getting his line down, apexing and exiting very nicely. I thought to myself, wow, he picked it up so quick! So when I sat with him at lunch, I asked him, where he had raced or driven before...thinking maybe our scouting report missed something lol...he said nowhere. So I asked him what he did for a living, or what sports he may or still play....to my surprise, he was a skiing instructor. So his visual skills, and picking a line through a slalom on the hills, he said, helped him tremendously! From him, I learned about the warning he gave to his students, which we translated to the last session of the day in the school. It is when we are most tired from doing runs all day, that we can lose our focus...his story ended with "that's when you hit the tree, or fall on your face..."
For us, it's when people are trying a little too hard, trying to go faster when they're tired, or it can be the hottest part of the day....that's when they can make a mistake and lose lap time....
just one of many little stories from my instructor days....

After dipping a wheel off-track and almost "losing it" in the chicane on the North Track, I am much better recognizing MY limits for sure.

If I ever go again, Ill opt for the additional insurance, just for peace of mind.

great idea
