The most recommended detailer and PPF installer here in Vancouver was prepping my brand new car (100 km) and noticed a paint chip: They wrote:
"It’s small and is a manufacturing defect on the gas cap as it’s too close to the fender when opened. We’ve seen this 3 times now in the past months."
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this and what they did. I am not sure how long it would take the dealership to get the paint or whether this defect is actually covered. Plus if the cas cap cover is too close then the scrape will just happen again so is there a resolution?
That is a TINY chip in a place you're never gonna look at unless fueling up. I'd put a dot of touch up paint in it, sand the door hinge plastic down a tad, and ignore it.
Thanks for your response. I tried a search for paint chip and fuel cover and found a lot of posts about computer chips and car covers but missed this. I guess the DIY solution is to buy a paint pen and then try to adjust the fuel filler door (I dont have a dremmel)

OP it sucks, but what sucks more is GM doing what you ask, Having the area repainted and blended the new paint and clear coat into the surrounding body. Touch it up and it’s just a “rock chip”, but have it repainted and now it’s “body work” for anyone who knows how to look for it. I’d just touch it up and move on.
Thanks for the responses. So the solution is:
Find the spot on the fuel filler cap that is touching and sand it down a bit and then touch up pen the paint.

The spot you want to smooth out isn't on the cap itself, it's on the hinge arm at the bottom. It's some mold 'flash' at the bottom of the arm.
Finally after 6 weeks the paint pen arrived, however I would like to take the fuel filler cover off to sand the hinge so I dont scratch the paint. Does anyone know how to remove the cover? I checked the other thread and somehow they sanded with the cover in place but I would be worried about further damage so want to take it off to sand
I just covered the area with painter's tape and used a strip of sandpaper about an inch wide and worked it back and forth like you would shine a pair of shoes....worked perfectly.

My brain is broken and I blame covid. I never even considered painters tape to protect while sanding !!!
IT'S TOTALED!!!!!....LOL..JK, Any professional can touch it up (fill it), buff it and you will never know it was there. Pretty amazing techniques these days.
Looks like the person who put fuel in it prior to delivery bumped it with the nozzle.
I should take a video put what is happening is the fuel cover hinge at the bottom is scraping the body. You can feel it scrape. If I pull the cover slightly outwards there is no scraping. Where the chip is cannot be toughed by a fuel hose.

The problem is that when I touch up the paint, the bottom of the hinge scrapes the paint off again so I need to modify/adjust that hinge. The recommendation is to sand the lower part of the hinge but I wonder if the hinge is somehow adjustable.
