I do not get why manufacturers are even putting navigation in cars. Waste of a chip, waste of components, and totally unnecessary given ubiquitous cell phones with nav software.

This is certainly not what we like to hear. Please know, customer satisfaction is extremely important to us. Our team would be more than happy to take a closer look into the navigation concerns with your Corvette . To do so, please send an email to socialmedia@gm.com with ATTN: SECLT22021/Corvette Forum in the subject line. Please include your contact information, VIN, a brief description of your concern, and the name of your preferred dealership. We look forward to hearing from you. I see two problems. The car not knowing where you are sounds like maybe a problem with the GPS antenna or the GPS circuitry itself. Parts will need to be replaced.
The map being wrong is an error in the map database. Pretty much all map databases have some errors. The problem with the in car DB error is you need to pay to get a new database that might or might not fix it. With Google Maps or Apple Maps or Waze, they can update the maps on the server and you don't have to do anything.

Agreed. I don't get it either. The OEM nav systems are obsolete by the time they make it into the car.

I understand database will/could be wrong in the future with new roads being built. But this car is about 2-3 month old and no new roads have been built in years. My 2011 BMW Nav worked fine and you could get free upgrades on forums after paying a fee to access the system. Think it was around $39 for a lifetime license.

In that case i could have saved myself 10-20k and just purchased an 1LT. Just s stupid comment saying they are obsolete. I was still using my 2011 BMW NAV with no problems just a few month ago.

The Nav on my C8 is awesome. I absolutely hate google maps or any other map bs so many use on their phones. They are slow to respond and often lose their signal.

If your GPS is that far off, time to take it to the dealer and have something done under warranty. I have used both the factory Nav and a Garmin Nuvi and both can have their moments on providing accurate GPS data.
As a side note to the O.P. .. If you input the name of a city, C8 nav can't find it. You have to actually put in an address IN that city. Funny little quirk.

In an older GM car I own (2013) I had a similar problem with the GPS not being at the correct location. The car on the map would turn off onto side streets while cruising on the interstate, or do a 360° turn, etc. Actually putting in a destination was pointless as the GPS location was wrong so the directions were also wrong. They ended up replacing the entire radio unit where the GPS chip apparently resides. I suspect you have a similar type of hardware failure that will need replacing. My C8 Nav has been working perfectly, although I usually use Waze.
