Default Pdi?

when your car is ready to be picked up from the dealer (I'm about a month out) I imagine I'll be pretty fired up and ready to "Grab N Go". BUT, this is a VERY important time. I've never done this on a "to me", a high dollar ride. I guess it goes like this. Please add your suggestions too .

1. Walk around the car, make sure all options and color schemes are what you ordered. Do you take a flashlight to really examine the paint job for any chips? SO many things people are finding out later, RE: wavy glass windshield distorting vision, paint chip on the gas cap where it closes. Scratches, nicks on the interior. Yada, Yada

2. Go through the features with the salesman, even if you know more about the car than he does. What are some MAJOR things I NEED him to show me? I'm an old guy and not techy at all !! SO,
Memory seats
Apple Car Play
PDR time stamps, Do I furnish the Sim Card? How much storage should I get?
Passwords ???
Valet Mode
Z&MY Modes
Dash Cam

3. The sit with Finance

Drive straight to Tint World for PPF and Ceramic coat. Then to mount my Areolarri's

What did I miss?

Look it over and note any issues. You can still identify issues later ( I found scratches in the windshield within 600 miles that was covered by warranty). But the sooner you spot them the better. Have your detailer alert you to anything they might find.

2. Go through the features with the salesman, even if you know more about the car than he does. What are some MAJOR things I NEED him to show me?

Sit in the car and go through the menus, settings, radio, climate control, etc. and try and figure things out. I studied the manual before hand and didn't need the salesman's help. But I sat in the car "exploring" for at least an hour before driving it.

I'm an old guy and not techy at all !! SO,

PDR time stamps, Do I furnish the Sim Card?

Yes, you supply the SD card for the PDR. Just get one from Amazon that's been recommended here on the Forum.

How much storage should I get?

I have 256 GB, but would go larger if you plan to sit the PDR to auto-record. I set mine to high-resolution and found the cards are finicky when they need to start over-writing old files. Get a card that's recommended here on the Forum.

Passwords ???
I recall linking my car to my Google account and password.

Valet Mode
Haven't used it.

Z&MY Modes
Learn the settings and effects as you have time. I use modes with every drive. Love them!

Dash Cam
That's how I use the PDR.

3. The sit with Finance

I just handed my salesman a check. First time ever not having to deal with a seperate Finace guy..

Drive straight to Tint World for PPF and Ceramic coat. Then to mount my Areolarri's

Yep! See if your detailer will go over the car with you to spot any defects.

What did I miss?
Test drive it before you pay for it. Make sure the dealer fills it with gas. Tell the dealer NOT to wash it, just do the required PDI work. If you get the Z51 package, make sure the lower rear ducts are NOT installed and are present in a plastic bag in the frunk/trunk.

And get some photos to post!

Go to Discount tire and buy their tire warranty for $175 -200 depending on location. Check the headlight body gap, just found mine have started to rub. Buy the ext dealer warranty 35 months after you pick it up (negotiate price)

The main things to worry about, IMO, are cosmetic things. If after you get the car home you find out the heated seats don't work, or Nav is broken, those sort of thing will be covered under warranty, no problem.

But if there's a scratch in the paint, or a tear in a seat, or some other cosmetic issue, the dealer could claim it happened after you took delivery. Best to check all those things out before you leave, and if you notice anything take pictures.

Get the PDI sheet so you know in advance exactly what the tech will be doing, and ask the tech if you have questions about anything on the PDI sheet, particularly pay attention to anything that is installed on the car as part of that process.

After PDI the car will exit the service bay and you will deal with the sales rep — the suggestions above are good ones.

I have already been planning on what I am going to do when and before I pick mine up. Ahead of time, I am going to ask that they do not wash, leave plastic on as many things in the interior as possible, and please don't put the dealership sticker on the back trunk area.

If the courtesy delivery dealer doesn't really completes the PDI or just whatever and checks everything. Will complaint to GM do anything or you are out of luck? Really need to find a good dealer to begin with I guess?''

Is test driving it part of the PDI? Because I really don't want them to drive it if I am not in the car, I don't even want a full tank of gas so they won't drive it.

My salesman has already told me that he won't drive it if I don't want him to. He said when it is time to get the complimentary tank of gas, that I can drive it and he can ride along with me. I haven't really thought about it one way or the other.

I was torn, and still am, between (a) it's just a mass-produced car and (b) it's an incredibly special mass-produced car and buying/owning it means a lot to me. Both perspectives are true, and respecting them in balance is the trick.

Can you explain the deal with not installing the lower rear ducts? I have a Z51 on the way. I did not know this is something I need to be watching for. Thanks!

You can read about it in the track preparation guide, found at this link:
https://www.chevrolet.com/content/da...reparation.pdf
Here is the section from the guide about that:

No. If you get a Z51, the bag with the parts are in the frunk/trunk with the instructions.

@clintw Here's a photo of the pre-delivery duct parts that were in the trunk of my Z51 at delivery. They should be installed during PDI except the four pieces in the lower left corner. Those four pieces are to be coupled to form the two rear lower ducts and installed only when tracking the car--not daily driving. The other pieces are the front and rear upper ducts installed at PDI.

Some dealers, including mine, install all or none of these by mistake. Just check to make sure you have only those four pieces (two if already assembled) in your trunk should they be needed for tracking the car.

The lower left 4 pieces are they suppose to be in 1 bag? I got 1 bag of those stuff.

The 2 big pieces and 2 other smaller pieces where do they go?

PDI are they supposed to fully charge the battery? After I got back I used the battery tender for 6 hours and it still didn't go fully charged (However I had the screen on for awhile going through menu and change settings, I remember it went off by itself for 2,3 times? but I had battery tender connected while doing that) No problem using the electronics like screen and radio when battery tender is connected right?

So did you guys get the PDI form from the dealer? My dealer never gave it to me when I asked for one, he said it's internal document only.

I did not ask for, and did not receive a PDI sheet from the dealer. All my Z51 specific stuff was all properly installed. They did not wash the car. And they put no goop on the tires to make them "shiny". I don't know if they charge the battery. The battery maintainer may take a while to switch to fully charged, even after you have driven the car for a while - that is not an issue in most cases. And, its not a problem to have it connected while running accessories in the car in you garage. If I am testing stuff I may run the engine while the charger is connected.

@okaythen I just had one bag with those four lower-left pieces. The other pieces are the front and the upper-rear brake ducts.

It can take awhile for the tender to show a full charge; however, do not start the car while it's plugged (in per the manual).

I did not receive a PDI sheet with my car.

My salesman knew that I knew about many of the features so rather than waste time on showing me the stuff I already knew, He showed me where to check the oil and raise the cover by remote (HTC), where the battery was, how to open the door from the outside in the event of power loss, how to open the frunk and trunk in the even of power loss, how to open the doors from the inside in the event of power loss or the pushbutton in the door didn’t work for any reason (I knew this one). Where the windshield washer fluid refill was. How to lower the top from the remote (I knew this one), how to adjust the video monitor rear view mirror.

I set up the power seat and exit settings before I left and made sure the memory worked, adjusted the sound to my liking, hooked up my iPhone and learned how memorize a front lift location. I was out the door in 30 minutes. Short and sweet just like I wanted.
