If you have a battery tender, not sure why you would want to leave it disconnected and let the battery go dead. I keep mine on the tender all winter long and come spring, battery is fresh and car is ready to go.
I can give you a reason I did not use my equivalent the GM CTEK charger on my C7 Corvettes I had for 7 years when on vacation for 3 weeks. Won't on my C8 either. Actually for 3 weeks no need. BUT leave my street rod with it's charger 24/7 unless going to a Car Show!
In the summer we often have thunder storms. Have lost 3 sprinkler controls, a TV HDMI connection and several LED lights etc! I wired my street rod from scratch! Would not like to do it BUT could rewire sections if needed. On the C8 would not want a dealer to be messing with wiring harnesses! Not a high probability BUT no need to risk. Disconnecting the battery for a few months or setting the low current draw that was used when the car was shipped from BG is a safe choice.
Wired my street rod from scratch! Made three 18" X 24" diagrams Lots of wires, relays, terminal strips. Would not like to replace a section BUT could do it. Could not and would not want a dealer to do it on my C8 either!

TV was plugged into a surge protector! Pay the Power Company for a whole house surge tripping device that only covers major appliances. However can't hurt!

Jerry, you need to get whole house surge protectors installed in your breaker box. Not very expensive and they will protect everything in the house.
^^^ Pay Duke Power for their "line protection" at the meter but it only covers major appliances. Hard to protect sprinkler controls. In fact I have a surge protector on that plug but with lines all over the ground to power zone valves not easy. In fact I have another control "ready!" It's being discontinued so got it for a good price!
