Those that have had problems. Indicate if:

1. you have Z51 or not
2. Track or not
3. Drag your car
4. Regular launch control usage
5. Added extra 2 quarts of trans fluid

let’s see if there is a pattern.

4. Regular launch control usage - ONCE
5. Added extra 2 quarts of trans fluid - YES, DURING PDI

Here’s an active poll with almost 200 respondents:

Thanks, but that's only based on year and mileage.

I wanted to see if other factors were present. As far as usage, even though a performance car should be able to take some abuse. But based on that survey there is roughly a 11% failure rate, a bit high if you ask me.

Yes, 11% is high, but how many responses?
How was the 11% calculated?
Isn't this thread just a day old or am I missing something?

I agree can't draw even a semi statistically sound number from this type of survey.

I have had zero DCT issues in my 14 month old Z51 that I don't Track but drive aggressively.

No extra fluid as have not seen a "sound reason" of what it does even when Tracking! Only GM comment was it helps if going downhill and turning as the fluid could go to the top of the case! That was said by a GM rep at Carlisle PA! Since 12.6 quarts of standard fill is several inches below the case centerline, 2 more quarts makes it ~15% higher and would not help that very much!

IMO when driving in Z Mode Powertrain set to Track the aggressive downshifting through 2 or 3 gears is pretty tough on the DCT. Do it all the time when I leave the ~70 mph 4 lane divided highway and turn into our 25 mph speed limit rural road! Love the sound!

My "non statistical sound" subjective opinion is the highest percent issue as leaking (seeping) fluid from the case. That has little to do with performance.

So far the only reason GM has stated that I have seen posted for adding 2 extra quarts is from a GM Rep at a talk in Carlisle PA that stated it helps if making a turn on a steep downhill as the fluid could go to the top of the case! Assume that also means no "jumping" your C8!

Z51 - yes. No track. No launch control. No rapid exit (burnout mode). No drag. no extra fluid. 1600 miles. No issue.
Mainly run in Z-mode with the powertrain setting to Track. Some use of manual mode.

The 11% failure rate was based on this thread.

I'm trying to see if there is a correlation to failure and hard usage, if problems are only due to hard usage then majority of us will be fine.
