We use Gyeon Iron to decon XPEL PPF when necessary; like using it on paint, be sure that it does not dry on the surface while you let it dwell and certainly don't do it in the sun. A claybar (and mitt) should be avoided as, much like on paint, it will likely mar the surface and PPF, while it can be polished *a bit* (more of a chemical cleaning than an abrasive polish) you don't want to polish it like paint. I'd imagine Iron-X would be similarly safe for PPF but not using it regularly, I'd check with the manufacturer to be sure.
How often should I clay my car? FAQ's by ESOTERIC!
Can you POLISH paint protection film?!
Generally the instructions/procedures for applying a ceramic to PPF are similar as applying it to paint, albeit skipping the clay and in most cases the polishing steps. Chemical decon, prep wipedown, apply coating and maintain. The key is to use a very forgiving coating as high spots left on PPF are more troublesome than on paint due to the inability to abrasively polish them away.
I nice solution we recommend to DIY folks who are hesitant to do a ceramic themselves due to the possibility of high spots is using something like POLISHANGEL Cosmic V2 maintained with Cosmic Spritz or the Cosmic Primer + Cosmic Spritz combo. Ceramic performance, with a little less 'heft' than a full on ceramic but with added advantage of tremendously easy application.
Should you want a full-on ceramic, Kamikaze ISM 1.0 or Miyabi are what we use on the majority of client cars; very, very easy to use.
