After almost 15 years with my C6 I got on the waitlist with MacMulkin for a C8! Thanks to the forum for recommending MacMulkin.
I have to back out from my home into a main avenue that is a little busy. How good is the visibility to the rear and the side? On my C6 I can look through the curve of the rear glass, but on the C8 it doesn't seem like the view would be as good?
With top up the camera is awesome once you get used to looking at the screen as opposed to focusing on a mirror. You see so much more than just with a mirror. With top down there are some bind spots and the rear of the car is high so view is somewhat obstructed but with mirror adjustment, blind zone indicator, and situational awareness it is not an issue. Small price to pay for what is a stupendous car!

He's asking about backing up, not rear view camera mirror.
I have a 2LT coupe and rarely use the mirror camera. With the regular rear view mirror and the side mirrors adjusted properly, I have no problem seeing what’s around me on the road.
I do use the mirror camera when I am backing out of parking spaces for a better view of what’s coming.
I would still buy the 2LT for the cameras, and all the other electronics.

Mine’s a 3LT so I have and use the bells and whistles. Regardless, properly adjusted side mirrors are your friend. With seating position being as far forward as it is you are pretty far out before you can see left or right. I back into parking spaces a lot. Always have, even with my old F-150.
Using the standard rearview mirror doesn't work well. If you try to turn your head and look through the rear quarter view it is absent. However, as mentioned above, the rear camera image visible through the rearview mirror is excellent. It can be zoomed in and out. I have mine set to show a lot of the rear quarter views. The disadvantage of this, which I have gotten used to, is that the objects visible in the camera mirror are closer than they appear. So, to directly answer you roriginal question, the visibility is good as long as you set up your camera mirror correctly.
If you have a 2LT the rear visibility is very good with the back up camera and rear cross traffic alert.
The real blind spot is when you come to a "Y" intersection and you are on one of the legs of the "Y". The rear quarters completely block your view of traffic. Very dangerous! I have to pull up to the intersection almost perpendicular to the handle of the "Y" to see traffic from both directions.
I used to have a full sized Dodge van with no side windows behind the doors, and had to park on a single wide driveway with limited visibility. When parking, and when traffic allowed, I would go by the driveway and back in. Made it a lot easier to get back on the street when leaving the house.
In my HTC visibility backing up is like sitting in a garbage can. When I back out of my driveway, If I don’t get a cross traffic warning, I cross my fingers and go!

Totally agree. The visibility for the situation you are describing is not great.

I had a C6 as well, and do miss that rear glass visibility. However, if you go 2LT or 3LT on the C8 there is plenty of camera and side traffic alert assistance. I back into a busy street as well and Im doing fine with the C8.
