Default Where do YOU drive FAST?

I go to a track, Motorsport Ranch, Cresson Texas. Now, am I tracking that new Hypersonic Gray Coupe?...No. I go there to drive fast.
In Texas the authorities will not let me exercise that right on public roads. I am on a track, I'm in track, but please GM I'm not tracking the car. Just being responsible.
Where do you drive fast?

I guess that depends upon the operational definition of "FAST".

Is it 5 mph over the speed limit? 10? 25? or is it in terms of raw speed? 100? 130? 150+?

I don't believe ANY of the forum users (or Corvette owners in general) assiduously obey the posted limits, but I think we could agree that the roads will safely take (traffic consideration aside) speeds in excess of the posted limits.

Keep in mind that the roads are designed so that cars are subjected to no more than .2gs at the speed limit and the same can be said for those yellow "advisory speed" signs going into the twisties.

Discretion. Lines of sight. Constabulary. Weather. are all factors. ..

Fast? ..... or fast for conditions. ... ?

I never drive too fast for conditions.

A little common sense goes a long ways on public roads. Some people have it and many don't.

When you don't that's how you wind up on YouTube crash compilation/fails videos.

Willow Springs and Wild Horse Pass main track 150 MPH. Silver State Challenge in the 150 class, 165 max but 150 average for 90 miles +- 0.2 seconds or less. 1/2 mile trap speed at airport rentals 160 MPH. Closed now to events but Mojave Muni airport 1 mile trap at 188 and 1.5 mile trap at 201.2 (HCI C6Z)

On empty back roads less than once ever couple of years, maybe 140 briefly.

I'm not sure why you believe you have the right to drive fast on public roads, but okay.

On the track = good sense.

The spirited driving many do on public streets and highways, is; Willful Reckless driving. I don't understand why anybody does it either. I certainly do not.

Like all the other members here - I take a trip to Mexico for those higher speed runs.

Best to take it to the track if you want to test the capabilities of the car.

Definitely make the short drive from Central KY to Mexico for any driving over the posted speed limit.

Neither willful nor reckless if you exercise caution and common sense. Scouting an area with little to no traffic before driving spiritedly, and driving it at slower speeds before moving up to more spirited levels is a perfectly safe and sane way to do it. Never pushing the car beyond your abilities (because you aren't out driving the C8) is another important factor.

I've done it for 25 years now and I've never once had an accident while doing so, or a serious ticket for it.

Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly.

My guardian does real well when I go to Gingerman Raceway, in South Haven MI. Very smooth and safe track to test your skills.

I live in a rural area with an abundance of twisty roads with lots of tight corners. In California the legal speed limit on 2 lane highways is 55 mph unless otherwise posted. I can have a lot of fun and still not exceed the speed limit.

These are both public roads - one is obviously safer to go faster on, using common sense.

Going "fast" never really mattered that much to me. Going around corners a bit quicker than expected has. With that, my "fast" driving is limited to laps at Summit Point Raceway, along with the occasional blast around an on/off ramp. Given the Police State of VA that I live in, getting silly on the road can turn into an instant reckless driving ticket, which is very expensive and criminal record territory.

I suspect different ages have different view points. Back in the day……. But back then our cars were not that capable as cars today.

modern sports cars are so much more then most drivers can safely handle. Thus the danger is heightened.

But the track is the best choice. Our cars can get to illegal speeds so fast the fun is short term.

I agree one hundred percent. I also live in the Communistwealth Of Virginia. A heavy right foot can cost you dearly and they hand out "reckless driving" tickets like candy around here.
