anyone have a solution to temporarily block the
engine vents while washing the car?
thnx in advance,
steve
When I first got the car, I laid three towels on the back end to prevent water from entering. Now I just wash the car normally and have gotten good at not spraying too much into the engine bay.
It's less of a hassle than I originally thought, and I expect you may feel the same way over time. I definitely was in a similar boat to you early on in ownership though.
I have a HTC, but I use Uline counter top protector which I buy directly from them in rolls. Ive used it for years whenever working on any of my classics and more importantly, whenever anyone else works on them. It’s also used by drag racers to keep dirt and other debris off of their lower quarter panels when doing their burn outs. It sticks really well and safely peels off.
I am just careful not to spray directly onto them and any water that has gotten in, I use to wipe off the top of the engine and surrounding area to keep it looking clean.
Don't over think this like most of us tend to do. I do nothing and wash my car at least two times a week. Just wash and rinse your car like you do any other and you will find the water that gets into the engine compartment is minimal and will do no harm.
After I'm done washing and drying, I open the rear hood and wipe what water there is and clean the engine compartment up. I then clean up the glass with glass cleaner.
This has been a confusing morning for me...Does the manual discuss, or warn, about washing the car a certain way relating to the vents?
Yes page 42 section VI warns about water intrusion on the HTC during washes and rain, best to keep that vent covered with a towel or something during a wash.
Down here in FL I keep a piece of cardboard handy while driving in case it rains, lower the rear window and tape it on the vent.
My first wash, did not cover the vents, minimal water goes in. BUT I have to say, this car is hard to wipe down.... toooooo many angles/corners and the both the rear glasses (partition and trunk lid glass) are difficult to wipe down if you don't have long arms.

There are no warning’s in the manual for the coupe.

Just had a look at p.42 of the Owner’s Manual…no reference to water intrusion. 🤷♂️ No reference anywhere else in the manual, either. However, upon looking at the quoted post anew, poster referenced his CARDBOARD solution. Poster should light the sarcasm font, I do believe. 🧐

What year manual is that? My '21 page 42 is about the interior. The only thing I can find in my manual is this: EDIT: Missed the /S in the post I replied to.
The only other thing it says about car washes doesn't reference the engine at all:
OP, if you're really worried, just put a beach towel over the engine, under the hatch, then use it to wipe down the engine compartment when you're done.

I will use painters tape when the time comes. However, I am surprised that no one has used a 3d printer to make little "insert blocks" or something for these vents.
