Default Seating Position

I picked up my car yesterday. I was in such a hurry to get out of the dealership that I did not have them help me set up the memory seat settings. As I was driving I noticed that I had to raise the steering wheel quite a bit to see the dashboard with all the graphics. I had seen so many photos on the forum of people showing the dashboard as they drove, but never thought they would be driving around with there steering wheel raised up so they could see it. I normally like to have the steering wheel pulled down as low as it would go.

Once I got home I saw how low the seat can actually be set and was pretty amazed. I don't think my 2LT C7 seat would go this low. It goes so low that I think I can pull the steering wheel pulled down as low as it will go and still view the dashboard through the steering wheel. The only problem is that I would be sitting very low in the car. So low that the top of the door is at shoulder height level. When you sit so low, you can"t view the front of the car as well or look around the car as well when you"re driving. I never sat in a newer Camaro, but I know a lot of folks thought the view was very poor for the same reasons I thought the C8 view is poor.

My question to the forum is do you normally drive with your seat set so low to view the dashboard through the steering wheel or do you raise the seat high enough to get the best view of the front and sides and just rely on HUD for speed and revs? Cheers

I am 5'7" and my seat bottom is set probably at 90% of the way to the highest position. I like being able to see the front of the car and having better visibility, but honestly I still can't comfortably put my arm out the window and rest my arm on the edge of the door. The profile of the door is just so much higher in the rear.
With this seating position, the lowest part of the seat is still BELOW the rocker panel, so yeah I agree with you that these seats can go amazingly low. Looks like only an inch or so of height adjustment though. So in my opinion, they already start pretty low.

Mine is set 95% of the way down to maximize head clearance. I'm a little over 6 ft. I set the auto exit seat feature to lift a little for easier exiting.

Funny story, when I picked up my HTC, As I exited the dealership, I found myself bumping my head on the headliner. This of course was quite upsetting, as at 5' 10", this should not have been happening. As I piloted my new car home, I found myself wondering, how I could possibly live with a car in which my head barely fit into the cockpit, without scraping the roof. Once I got home, I started fiddling with the seat controls....."Oh,", I observed, "these seats actually go DOWN". I felt a little silly, I must admit....

FWIW, I have the steering wheel set fully forward and so the top of the Squarcle (GM's name) is level with the dash so it does not block forward view or the dash.

We all like to drive differently but my seat rear is set down, front up and seat back tilted for a somewhat bent arm position. It's the way I had my two C7's, C6 etc set.

For exit, the steering wheel goes fully up as do the front and rear seat. Also fully back. The C8 seat does go lower than my C7s.

I am only 5'7" ish, but have always driven with seats almost all the way back and the steering wheel at it's lowest, I definitely can not see the top 1/3 or so of the instrument cluster and liek you mentioned, I rely on the heads up pretty heavily. In my wife's SUV I literally can't see the speedometer when I'm driving without drastically moving my head. I hate it. Made sure her new car that's coming in Jan/Feb has heads up.

I'm 5'9" and I have the seat as low as it will go. I have a bad back and a long torso so I need all the head room I can get getting in and out of the car. I also drive with the seat back as vertical as I can get it and still clear my head. I can see just fine through the steering wheel.

It took me months to get comfortable in the seat for long drives. I'm only 5'6'' but still drive with the seat fairly low.

I have a set of Recaros in my ST. I went out with a digital level and a tape measure as those seats are set to a perfect for me driving position. I measure seat height, seating level and back rake level. Then I went to the C8. The seats WON"T go as high and the seat angle won't go as far off level.

I lower the steering wheel so that I can just see the turn signal lights below the top of the wheel, which is set all the way forward.

BUT.... I set seating position 2, normally adjusted to key two, to a completely different setting. On that one I set it up with my eyes closed starting well back then adjusting the seat so it felt comfortable as if in an easy chair. Then I moved forward until my feet were just right at the peddles, (my heel at the base of the accelerator) Only then did I reach out to adjust the steering, and after that open my eyes. SAVE to TWO.

While driving any distance I can reach over to the door with my right hand and hit button 2 to get that more higher driving position. If that gets tiring I hit button 1 and go back to the lower more upright setting but lower.

hope any of this makes sense

TLDR. Use door buttons to get TWO driving positions and change at a whim.

The other thing I forgot to mention is how far the steering wheel telescopes to the driver. It's almost freaky how far it moves out. I don't even check the limit it was out so far out when I stopped!

I'm 6'2" and set the seat as low as it will go and the back until I'm comfortable and have no problem seeing the HUD. I set the steering wheel where I can see the instrument cluster and it's not very close to me. I set the side mirrors as if I have no rear view/rear camera. I have gotten used to not being able to see the front of a Corvette and it's why I love the front camera. In fact, I can't see much of my car at all with my mirrors - just the road behind me.
