I installed GM's. Too cheap not to. Not sure they will do much for me? But if they do I won't know that they do. Which is the point. Though impossible to prove. Or refute.
Do the dealer installed splash guards really protect against rocks and road debris damaging the paint? Worth $255?
Depending on the GM parts source, you can buy GMs for $150 +/-. Front and back. They can be self installed in 30 minutes with no tools required. Just a little effort. The instructions will tell you to use a prying tool of some kind, but I removed the old ones and snapped on the new ones with mechanic's gloved hands. And I'm surely no Paul Bunyan.
I ordered the XL splash guards. They didn't install them during PDI and just left them in a baggie.
When I was driving, I heard all sorts of sand and crud hitting the side of the car. It was horrible.
I immediately installed them, and I stopped hearing all the sand and debris hitting. I think they are a "must" have.
I was told the $255 is the installed pricing . or pay less and install yourself. If you can find them .. BTW they are Made in China
Yes, options ordered with the car are dealer installed and under warranty, i.e. splash guards, wheel locks, etc. The Dealer installs them as part of PDI. If not, they are not doing their job.
GM has to figure in labor with dealer installed options, so the $255 are for parts and labor to install.
First thing I did was install the factory gm splash guards, You can find new OEM (part numbers shown above) for much less, I purchased mine for $140 for the front and rear OEM set. My opinion on the XL mud guard is they look horrible, way too big.
I stated XL earlier, but the ones that I got were the GM option when you order the car.
I guess I didn't realize the XL were even larger and not made by GM.
I have the factory option ones and feel that they make a difference if you have aftermarket wheels or spacers. They are really easy to install, just need a 7mm socket and ratchet, and possibly a plastic pry tool. I bought mine on the website (before they were back ordered) and got to use most of my gm points from buying the car. Ended up being $87 total for both sets.

I would recommend buying and installing the splash guards - they do help keep debris from hitting the side of the car. Sure work well on my C7. Plus they are easy to install, thus saving a lot on the cost.
In a way .. impossible to tell if they help... It's like this
A guy wears a tinfoil hat because he believes aliens want to make him dance and spin when waiting for WALK lights .. He never does dance and spin while waiting.. .. Was it the tinfoil hat? He's convinced it is.
I have the splash guards. I don't have any dirt, debris, or markings up the sides of the car, even when having driven in the rain. .. Would there be marks without them? I'll never know, cause I'm not going to take them off to find out.
