The motion sensor is supposed to get turned off when the top is down in the HTC or off of the coupe. For the C7 coupes the trick was to insert something like a plastic drywall insert in one of the top alignment pin holes (on the passenger side as I remember) when the top was off. However, some (or all?) 2020 HTCs will set off the motion detector with the top down. My understanding is GM "corrected" that on the 2021's and later.
That is correct the sensor is supposed to be off with top down. My 2021 HTC works this way.
Maybe you guys knew about this but I didn't until yesterday. I ordered a sandwich and went to pick it up. I drove to the shop with the top down. Because I was just popping in and out, I didn't put the top back up. I did lock the car with the fob though as I walked away.
I returned to the car and put in my sandwich bag gently in the passenger footwell. I didn't touch anything on the car. Then suddenly the alarm went off. Somehow the car knew I reached in even without touching anything.
Whatever GM put in this car is pretty impressive.
Thats good to hear. If memory serves, that only worked on the C7 with the TOP UP?! Seemed odd to me, as the scenario you describe is more likely with a convertible that someone reaches in to swipe a bag, sunglasses, wallet, etc. when the top is down. Glad there is a motion sensor in play now.
