How does the rear window defroster work on the coupe? Is it an electrical grid type or a warm air vent? I wouldn't think it necessary given the heat from the engine bay and the camera-fed rear view mirror.
There seems to be a defroster that heats the camera as well!? .. I've had the image appear slightly foggy, then turned on the defroster and had the image clear up...
It's not been out of focus, more like halos around other cars' headlights. ..
My 3lt has a camera instead of a mirror... don't care if it's frosty back there, foggy, dirty, whatever...
Funny, when someone asked where to hang dry cleaning, I said the rear center roof latch! Yep it covers the view from the mirror out the hatch widow. BUT I only use the TV mirror so don't care!
Actually works jut fine, the level holds a cloths hanger just great!
I posted in this thread and another that I started about using the rear window defroster to get rid of the "fog" that sometimes appears in the camera-mirror... '
Turns out I've just been hitting the DEFROST setting of the climate control, not the rear window DEFROSTER... ....
I only found out because I had the screen in climate mode and saw that is was not in AUTO.. When I put it in auto, the light went off on "the wall"... I looked further down the row and found the real defrost button.

How can you see fog in the camera mirror that doesn't look through the window??
If you see fog, it's foggy out and the hatch is not the issue.
When folks asked where do you hang dry cleaning? I said I use the rear roof latch as although it blocs the view through the hatch I use the camera mirror and it's a none issue!
The image in the mirror appears "foggy" .. That is for example, there are halos around other cars headlights as would appear IF it were foggy out. .. Also the whole image is... if foggy isn't a good term,... then grainy? but the images are in perfect focus.

I may be missing something BUT the TV Mirror Camera is above the hatch. It doesn't look through any glass (at least in the Coupe.)
However I was getting a glare (and had some difficulty viewing with my Progressive eye glasses.) That was until I put the mirror mechanically tilted as IF I WAS TRYING to look at myself, i.e. tuned so it was perpendicular to my face. No reflection through the rear or hatch glass. If you flipped to a "real mirror" you would be looking at your face (you can't tilt it quite that far but in that direction.) TRY IT!
SIDEBAR
If you have a Vert you will have to readjust the mirror when the top is down and you're forced to use the "real mirror." BUT no different when I drive the wife's SUV, have to mechanically adjust her mirror. No big deal. The wide view i have set is so much better than any car I have every had for rear visibility I don't even have to use the side mirrors or the "Blind Spot Detection."
I find the C8 (and even our BW SUV) "blind spot detection" is poor, does not look back far enough to catch cars coming up fact from behind. Just have to keep your eye in the TV Mirror all the time. Have been doing that since I started driving and attribute it partly to not having an accident with another car in over 60 years driving (that and LUCK.) It has to become an instinctive automatic reflex. I'm sure I started looking to see who was coming up fast from behind as a teenager for a reason!

I guess sometimes we forgot stuff. I have had 4 previous GM products eight the rear views camera. I didn’t think to check this one or my first c8 haha. Thank you for reminding me ! I went out last night turned it on. So much better
There seems to be some issue with my communication skills....
I am perfectly aware of where the lens for the camera mirror sits. I AM well aware that it does NOT look thru the back glass.
Those things do not mean that the image isn't "foggy" at times.. It may well be that it is at least partly because of the "auto-dim" feature of the camera mirror .. but whether it is because of condensation on the lens, or some other issue, I tried using the DEFROST button anyway to try to clear it up. .. and it worked! .. I can't argue with success.... but then it turned out, that I wasn't actually hitting the rear window defrost button, but rather the front window defrost that channels the heated air from the heater box.... That's what cleared up the camera mirror originally... .. but hitting the rear window defrost button also works, for whatever reason.
People seem to want to argue about the features and how they work, or point out my ignorance about how and where the camera mirror/lens sits. .. ..
All I can do is report that my "solutions" cleared up my "problems" and hope that by sharing my information that others may be helped if they are having similar problems...
