If I was rich it wouldn't matter, but I'm not...so I just waited 8 months for my allocation , I didn't have to have it that bad to pay over msrp

Not likely, they are a volume MSRP dealer and I didn’t pass on a built car sitting in their showroom. Knowing the volume they move, I’m sure the allocation went to another customer right behind me in line.

Zero over MSRP, if you're doing a factory order. Unfortunately, below MSRP pricing wasn't even offered at my dealership.

I do not have a C8 right now nor one on order, but I have always bought cars under the principle of not over MSRP, and in fact have never even paid MSRP. To me, $20K or even $5K over MSRP is not something that interests me. I can wait until the frenzy dies down and prices come back to normal levels - and if they don't, then most likely no C8 for me. I am happy with my C7 at the moment so no hurry to make a jump right now.

I've always been a strict "never over MSRP" guy but I'll admit to paying 20k over for mine (coupe, not HTC) last fall.

Backstory: I had a deposit in with a local dealer for 3 months, and found a dealership an hour away that had a rapid blue 3LT with the matching interior on the sales floor. Asked their price, they said 20k over firm, and they would only sell it to someone local. Took some pics, went back home and thought about it, looked at the pics a few more times, and decided you only live once, and went back the next day and bought it. No regrets!

On a side note, I'm still on the other dealer's waiting list...9 months in and I'm only down from #75 to #40 on their list.

Yep and here is the problem the car is too dam cheap-GM raise the dam prices. When you have so many willing to spend over MSRP then what that price is will be the new MSRP and you can thank each and every one that pays well over that for the increase.

$0 Over MSRP. Only a moderate Dealer fee (ie $500) I am willing to wait a year or more, especially since I am still in love with my mint C7 2015 Z51 Coupe. and enjoy driving every chance I get....

Around here the best is 20K over. Some want more than that. I found 2 dealerships that will sell for MSRP if you order with a 5K deposit, but they admit it might be a 2 year wait. Both very small dealerships. They only get about 10-12 allocations a year and they both have about 15 or 16 deposits already.

I paid roughly $8k over and felt bad. But did it Knowing I was on a list that would allocate eventually. Was able to have a 1LT HTC first hand and put Miles on it. Decided I really wanted the HTC over Coupe and the 2LT over the 1LT/3LT Price. Sold the car when I had the allocation and came out just fine.

I agree, I would never normally pay over MSRP on a car, But this is a different beast. You can Pay $10k over sticker, enjoy it for the summer put 5k+ Miles on it and still get out of it for your cost. So those who waited all of 2021 for a car to arrive in the winter, you wouldn't have lost out on anything had you paid over. (over 2020 and 2021 Calendar Years)

Now, I would never pay over on like a Sedan for a DD, or something that I didnt think I could get cheaper quickly. But when most lists are 10+ months to delivery. thats different.

Same. Between my Corvettes and my DD, I have a habit of trading in and buying a new car every few years but I don't buy unless I am getting a great deal. Usually well below MSRP. My '22 C8 was the first car I have ever purchased at MSRP and I'm ok with it. Paying an ADM was never a consideration, but my dealer did clip me at the last minute to finance through them and buy an extended warranty. I grumbled, but recognizing the market we are in, I let it go. However, I will not do business with them again. Which led me to the above mentioned "2nd dealer" who now has my deposit for a Z06.

$50 UNDER MSRP for my 2LT , Z51 coupe. Doesn't have the rear parking assist YET but will have at some point NO hidden add ons and $599 dealer fee. Waited 14 month but got it from my local dealer and very happy.

I know its frowned upon but I paid $10k over MSRP last week for my 3LT. The shortest time from deposit to delivery I could find was 9 months. The additional cost wasn't meaningful to me but I appreciate that isn't the case for everyone. I wanted to enjoy the Stingray until I can find a Z06. I expect that will be significantly more costly to acquire off the lot but I am currently #1996 on the MM list since I was SUPER late to the party. I don't believe they will be able to sell vehicles to everyone on the MM list before production ends.

Pay $0 over and wait or you can pay over and not wait. That is pretty much what it comes down to.
Oh my goodness, went to event code 3000 in August 2021 and you just got your C8. Wow that is a long time.

$10k over msrp. 0 wait time. Much like others mentioned in previous post, I have never paid over msrp, only under msrp. What's going on with the car market is something that I have never seen before. For instance, buying a new silverado 2500 HD, driving it for 4.5 years and selling it back to a dealership for what I originally paid for it. I would do it all over again.

Chevy underpriced the car in my opinion. Its an awesome car and a night a day difference from my C6ZR. Completely different feel when driving. I couldnt pass it up for 10k over msrp when the opportunity presented itself. Would I do it again, yes. May also do it with the Z06 if that opportunity falls in my lap.

I'm planning on paying 10k over. Took a week to get an allocation and another few days to go to 2000. I can still back out with no penalty. While I was at the dealership, they sold 2 fro 20k over that people had ordered then backed out on. I'm still agonizing over paying this, or getting a used cayman. The cayman is probably the smart decision. I just dont always do the smart thing

I'm part of the $10K over club... I was late to the MSRP wait list game, and still had 9-12 months to wait, so I zero chance of getting a 2022... A dealer called me with the deal on the exact car I would have ordered (a 1LT Coupe; non-Z51, Triple Black with Transparent Top and low profile spoiler). .

Figured with the price increase expected for 2023, my incremental cost was at most $7500

Since I'm still on the wait list on the other dealer, I'm still confident that the chip situation won't be resolved in the next 18 months, so even if I wound up ordering a HTC instead, I would expect the trade in/resale value of my coupe would retain the over MSRP I paid so I was able to rationalize it away.

Would I have liked to pay MSRP... Absolutely... Am I happy I have my C8 now... Absolutely

Do what you are comfortable with...

I think we all have a real mental hang up with the concept of msrp. A price to acquire is how we purchase everything. If it be seasonal fruit, gas, a steak or cars. Forget msrp, buy what you are comfortable buying and can afford and move on.

5 years ago corvettes were selling 10 15k under msrp. No one complained. This model will also be discounted within 5 years.

If gm raises the 23 prices 10k would people be happy paying msrp then?

Why do folks like to tear down anyone who pays above msrp? They got the money, we’re smart enough to make it ….it’s there choice.

just my random thoughts….but what do I know?
