Default Couple questions

So I’m really close to my allocation coming up. Was set on the front lift but see many say it’s not necessary. Does this car scrape as much as a C7Z? I didn’t have much trouble with it in 4 years.

Also I want the GT2 seats. I see many go 2LT and add them. Does one really save much by not going 3LT? I am definitely going HTC,Z51 with Magride. Still undecided about stock wheels and going after market or the Trident wheels.

I do not know if it scrapes less than the C7. I do know that certain road features exist that will result in scraping if you do not use the lift. Whether or not its necessary for you will depend on whether you encounter or can avoid those conditions.

As for the difference in price between the 2LT plus GT2 or 3LT, when I was doing this, I used the Corvette configurator to determine the answer to similar questions.

Thanks. I was just seeing if I could get a few pointers from those of you driving one. The 23 configurator isn’t due up for a few weeks.

Default Ever mindful of approach angle w/o Lift

I have no front lift and I find I don’t need it but it does require me to always be mindful of my approach angle when crossing intersections or up driveways. There are occasions when I have to switch lanes in the intersection (not generally a good idea) in order to create the angle necessary to not scrape. If I had the lift I wouldn’t need to worry about it.

Having "not much trouble" is no consolation if one time you scrape a 5VM Cabon fiber splitter. See pics on why I selected the lift without question.

You'll save about $3000 getting a LT2 with GT2 seats over a 3LT. You're paying mostly for a color choice with a 3LT! That is what I did because I wanted Natural Dipped (worth it to me!). Oh I get a nice headliner, which is a non issue for Verts. I get a different faux leather in some areas although it's questionable what- as GM states the only real animal hide leather is the "seating surface" of the GT 2 seat" and perhaps the wrist wrest on the Mode Control ****! All other "leather" is their faux Mulan or perhaps something else. In the C7 it was Vinyl but not sure with the C8. I had 3LT C6 and 2014 C7 and a 2LT 2017 Grand Sport. Frankly could not tell much difference between faux leathers!

I love my Trident Gray wheels, FWIW.

I scraped my C6 skid pads. Scraped the rubber center air dame often but that is a non issue. Those aluminum skid pads make scraping rubber sound like music!

On my 2014 Z51 installed and aftermarket splitter. Scraped the bottom several times. Did not look good.

For my 2017 Grand Sport had the Stage 2 Aero option with a Carbon Fiber Splitter. Because of prior experiences bought a $500 splitter protector. Can help BUT only for a small scape, perhaps 1/4 inch high. With he C8 can deal with 1 1/2 inch dips prior to an entrance etc. Have the places where I scraped (like the driveway to FedEx off a 4 lane highway with traffic going ~50.) Can't stop and go in at an angle with traffic coming up fast behind! Now it's programed to lift going in and out!

The lift comes in handy for me, I'm glad I have it.
Love my GT2 seats with 2LT.
HRE wheels sitting in my garage to be finally mounted hopefully this week. I'm not a fan of any of the stock wheels.

I got the front lift because I knew I would scrape where I drive if I didn't get it. I had a C7 with a "poverty splitter" and I scraped.
If your C7 has a splitter and you don't scrape then you are probably OK where you live. But if you got to some place like San Francisco or Monterey then you'll probably wish you had it.

I got the 3LT because that is the only way you could get Natural Dipped. But I still probably would have gone with the 3LT. I really like the sueded microfiber wrapped upper part of the interior. Gives the car a more luxurious atmosphere vs fabric.

These are great questions and the opinions will vary, the truth is that the best answer is whatever works best for you…. I don’t have lift and have not needed it, I have 5VM splitter and I think it has more clearance than my C7 Z51. Having said that I will order it on my next build just because. Personally I think the value trade between 2LT with GT2’s vs 3LT depends a lot on the interior color that you are considering. If you opt for two-tone GT2’s it’s about a $2500 to $3000 difference to 3LT depending on what additional options you may want (sueded micro fiber inserts/ wheel, etc.). You could argue that the $3k is worth it from a resale perspective but if you plan to keep it forever then you could use that money for painted nellaces, high wing, body colored accents, stripes, etc…. With regards to wheels I say get the stock silver and get aftermarket wheels, nice options out there for $2-3k.

Just my 2 cents…. Hope it helps

I can only speak from my perspective, and I have a decent incline coming off the street and my C7Z would always scrape. My ‘22 C8 Z51 HTC without front lift does not scrap at all. I think the “2’s” (LT2 & GT2 seats) are a great sweet spot for this car.

I have a front lift. Don’t know if it scraped as much as my C7 did cause I have the lift. If you have the money I would say get it. If your tight then don’t

I don't have the lift and I don't need it. My driveway entrance is fairly steep. As long as I go in on an angle it's fine. I've yet to meet a speed bump it couldn't handle too.

I went with 2LT as I felt it allowed more money to add al la carte options like GT2 seats, low spoiler, trident wheels and body color accents....I've very happy with my choices....

Good luck with your selections....

When backing out of my driveway my C7 scraped a little; however, my C8 does not scrape. On the C8 you do not have the weight of an engine in front. I think the front lift for the most part is a waste of money. I love my GT2 seats, they are well worth the extra money. The GT2 seats do have real leather on the seat bottoms. I have also sat in the GT1 seats, which are nice, but the GT2 seats fit around you better. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for all the input. Hopefully the new configurator will help the decision as well. As said I had very little issue with scraping my C7Z. Just don’t want to waste 2k on something I don’t need.

The C8 will be my first Convertible and that’s really the only reason I got rid of my C7. The C7 was also a 2LZ and I had no issue with the interior. If I can get 2 tone interior it sounds like a 2LT with GT2 seats may be the way to go. The Corvette is just a toy also as I drive trucks as a DD. Much more practical where I live.

In our area a few areas it is needed, also for me to get down my mechanics driveway with lift and only z51 splitter I have about 1 1/2” with lift so glad I got it. We went 3LT as we wanted Natural Dip, otherwise we most likely would of went 2LT.

I got the 2LT package as the sweet spot in value, but I wish I had the GT2 seats. It took me over a thousand miles to get them to be comfortable. But while at Spring Mountain I had a chance to try the GT2s and was INSTANTLY comfortable. ..

I recommend the front lift, .. better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, but if $$$$ is limited the GT2s would be my choice if it were one or the other.

We have a few sets of speed bumps in suburban neighbourhoods and speed bumps are becoming more popular here. Without front lift I need to crawl over them. With front lift I can slow to about 20mph and get over them. The other good thing is: at night, in the rain going to a friends house I forgot where some bumps are and have hit a few fairly fast. With the front lift (programmed) there is visual cue that you are approaching a speed bump and that has saved me.
My previous SLK350 had less ground clearance but never scraped so there is something odd about C8.
Update: Stopped at a Shell gas station tonight for some of that really expensive gas. The exit looked OK on the way out : SQREEEkkkk. Now programmed that one in. I am not sure if doing any actual damage but just the sound is enough to warrant lifting.

Certainly depends on where you live and drive, but in a year and a half I have never scraped one time. I did go into a steep driveway and I went in at an angle. I heard a little scraping and thought "oh well" but the splitter didn't scrape, it was the molded giant fangs up underneath directly in front of the front wheels.

I wanted all the tools, including the lift. And, I have used it.

Know your budget, and the driving conditions where you drive or. might drive.

If you don't get it, adjust accordingly!

Have you every owned another sports car with a front-lift? I rest my case. Just more to go wrong and added weight.

A great point. It’s never been an issue for me. I guess I may be thinking about it too much. I can see how it may come in handy. However I normally plan where I’m driving my car. If it’s unknown territory I take my truck.
