There are windshield protection films, but they have drawbacks as well. They generally have to be replaced after 3-5 years, more frequently if you use the wipers. They are fairly expensive for the area covered. Many PPF installers recommend against and/or won't install windshield film because of these issues.
Get windshield comprehensive coverage if your insurance company offers it. I made sure I have it for mine. It's set at $0 deductible. I'm pretty sure C8 windshields are very pricey to replace.
Thank you! I’ll be calling agent in the morning. I’m also going to see if I can get cooperation from the trucking company.
I had a star crack with 1/2” extensions on the drivers side. Thought needed new windshield; call local shop that fixes this and was amazed, for 60.00, I can no longer see the crack.
I first called my insurance (USAA) about replacing the windshield, but impression from agent, it was a tiny demerit to my policy. States and insurance companies may vary. And / or the the agent I spoke with was misinformed.
I do have Clearplex on another car, it’s a thicker PPF film, and there is little distortion. You do need to treat that clear film pretty regularly.
The windshield seems to be a rock magnet. Not really sure why this is. I already have multiple chips and only have 2800 miles. Waiting for the big one before I replace it.
If your insurance doesn't cover windshields and you want the trucking company (or their insurance) to pay for it, you have to file a police report for the damage, and then trucking company should provide insurance info when you ask or they'll just send you a check, but police report is usually needed to get things going. For claim to be accepted, the rock or debris normally has to come off of a bumper or other part of the truck or trailer. Coming from a tire will normally cause claim to be denied. If car is less than one year old, you can usually request and/or demand oem glass.

Been there twice….once just as you described., another time wind picked up a pop up tent and destroyed the back of a new Honda. Insurance companies got together and my insurance said we'll take care of it….. I said what? They said minor act of god. ????? Guess I should say ex insurance company tho probably standard policy.

I think the agent should advise best options, just in case the windshield needs replacement. I know some states, it’s not a demerit bc of safety. Plus we pay for insurance so can use it.
May be cautious of a police report as it hits Carfax.

Insurance should take care of it with no adverse effect on your car's repair history. I.e. AZ law requires auto insurers to provide no deductible windshield repair. Safelite does quality chip repairs that work great. Pretty typical thing in Tucson where gravel trucks are everywhere. Tough environment for real grass, so most 'lawns' are really graded crushed rock. So a lot of debris kicked up on the high speed roads. Not much you could do about Lady Luck. She is a fickle mistress. Get it fixed and have a cold one.
Already had my C8 windshield replaced (scratched at delivery) last year. Had the one one in my C6 replaced three years ago due to a rock strike. No cost to me for either and no problems afterwards. Recall the C8 repair cost about $1,100.
A-pillar covers must be removed. Replacement glass
Thank you all for your responses. I have a quote from Chevy for $802. I have to go get the police report to submit to trucking company. My insurer, State Farm, said they don't have specific coverage for windshield that wouldn't require deductible. I'll get it done and wait on reimbursement. In the meantime, I have to take a look at the options mentioned up top so that I don't have this happen again.
I got chipped lower windshield on the same road in my C6 seven years ago headed to a Bears game in ATL. I swear sometimes it seems like everything is drawn to the color red. SMH.

I've asked about Exoshield and every place I've asked about it scoffs at me and they say they won't touch that stuff. I saw ammonyc put it on his car and haven't been able to find anyone that would do it. Do you know of any place that would/ where did you get yours done?

I’m in sc. I had my 20 done in Charleston. Tint World. When I was there they had 2 cars from the Porsche club there. That club was shipping their cars down to Sebring I believe as they had rented the track. Dude said almost everyone in their track club ran exoshield. It’s not a permanent solution but helps out for a reasonable time. Every corvette I’ve owned ends up with a pitted windshield.
