I’ve never had a car that had a transmission problem, so I can’t speak to what it should have felt like.
They did ask me to come in and take a look at it on the lift. There was a bolt missing and there was a ton of fluid leaking from it.
As far as I know they’re a legit dealership, they own several dealerships in the area (Fred Beans in Doylestown PA). They have some award from GM hanging up in the service department.
I honestly don’t know how they diagnosed the problem, but they contacted GM and asked for their assistance and whatever they spoke about was enough for GM to green light a transmission replacement under warranty.
They gave me an Equanox small suv as a loaner. Obviously a huge difference between that and a corvette but I appreciate the gesture.
Now for the for the GOOD NEWS!
After reaching out to the CEOs office I was contacted by someone who was able to escalate the situation up the ladder and…..GM is shipping them a new transmission as we speak.
That’s outstanding customer service.
Just remember most lemon laws have a 30 days down clause. Do you have a rental?
I forgot about that. Would they have to replace the car with a new one or just buy it back?
no, I don’t have a rental but I guess I should ask them for one.
i do have another car but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to have a rental as a back up
Can you explain what you mean my "blown" transmission? What is the exact failure?
started leaking yesterday and took it in to the dealership this morning.
When they called me back they said that the transmission had unrepairable internal damage and will have to be replaced. Said a bolt had broken loose inside the housing and that it’s fucked.
National backlog on them so it’ll sit there until they get a new one which I was told could be 2 months
From social media owner reports, it is impossible to get a handle on how big or small this issue is. I'm pretty sure that a large number of these "blown transmissions" only require something as simple as a cleaning flush.
There was a reported known problem a year or so ago that Tremec wasn't doing a very good job of ensuring the casings were completely clean before assembly, and dislodged debris was causing sensor problems.
However, it is reminding me of the large number of forum reports of problems with the A8 in C7.
I only really drive her a couple days a week but it’s still super annoying that I won’t have her for awhile just as the weather is starting to get nice around here.

Thanks for sharing. I have not seen this failure mechanism before, so it may be an anomaly when compared to other issues reported with the C8 DCT.

Yea, I'd categorize that as a blown transmission...
I get the financial incentive, but it's a bad customer service policy to leave existing customers at the back of the pack in terms of allocating parts for fixing manufacturing defects. They obviously sold you a transmission that was faulty in some way; it seems unforgiveable to push a fix out months because they'd rather allocate those transmissions to new cars. I say this as someone waiting for my new car. If I were in your shoes, it would be my last corvette.
Should I ask for them to reimburse me for my car payments while it’s in the shop?
I had tons of problems with my TRX and they pretty much told me too bad so I sued them.
I had a minor reoccurring issue with BMW and they gave me money with no argument.
How is GM with those things?
Doesn't hurt to try GM corporate to see if they'll do car payment or rental car. Seen lots of people get car payments on long long repairs. Thankfully never had to try for it myself. I did get an alfa stelvio loaner on my giulia engine replacement that took 3 weeks with the engine coming from Italy

If you're out of a driveable car for 2+ months, I'd definitely ask and find out.
That's the only thing that's made me skeptical of coming to GM is how they deal with this sort of thing and treat C8 owners the same as Chevy Spark owners. At least based on all the paperwork. They really need to get the Corvette owner experience with the dealers and GM in general in how it is with other luxury brands (or at least how my experience has been with other luxury brands [guaranteed loaners, etc]).
You absolutely should call GM and ask them to escalate to leadership. I’ve heard of them taking good care of people experiencing transmission issues with these brand new vettes.
You just got their brand new corvette, that you probably waited almost a year for (or overpaid), then now you can’t use it for months because of a serious defect. While still making payments. If they’re smart, they’ll take this very seriously.
Were you able to drive the car to the dealership or did you have it towed? Would the GM roadside assistance be the best way to do this since I assume they would find a tow company that knows how to properly tow the car?

i drove it there.
Honestly it felt normal. I thought it was an oil leak.
I was shocked when they called to explain the transmission was fucked.
