My first stroke of bad luck. Car in front of me thru up a stone and put a 12" crack in my windshield. I've seen 'Safe-lite' commercials on TV that say they re-calibrate safety systems (I'm assuming that has to do with my Head Up Display and maybe PDR)? My insurance agent said they would pay for an O.E.M. only if no aftermarket is available. Anybody else have the misfortune of going through this that can give me some recommendations would be appreciated.
Safe-Lite just called and said there IS an aftermarket and I could pay the difference to an O.E.M. (which I will do). She said my agent is incorrect about me having to pay the difference on a vehicle this new. She also said there was no 'calibrations' involved because we don't have 'Lane Departure Warning'. @dashotgun , when they replaced yours did it have the same etchings with Zora's head and the 'Team Corvette' script ? Thanks for all the inputs!
In Arizona, it is against state statute for an insurance company to mandate and/or only pay for a non OEM replacement part. Of any kind. Good OEM part's chain lobbyist in Phoenix I guess.
I had my glass chip on the 3rd day after bought it. I took it back to my dealership and submitted the invoice to Geico. The dealership did outsource the work to a subvendor who did the work in the dealership. Knowing what I know the Glass replacement was quoted 6 week lead time from Safelite or 10 days through dealership parts. I would recommend OEM glass performed through a dealership.
I've had Safe Lite replacements on C4, C6, CTS-V Cadillac, and a C7 - zero complaints, zero problems.....
Same. I've had it for my Genesis which has HUD as well as smart cruise and lane-keep-assist, and had zero problems. There was a calibration step, but nothing I needed to worry about.
I haven't had good experiences with Safe-Lite. My daughter in-law brought her car to their shop to have the windshield replaced and they put a big scratch(approx. 6 inches) in her roof. They didn't notify her about what they did. Luckily, she looked the car over before leaving and she noticed the scratch. She brought it to their attention and after some discussion between management and the tech they agreed to repair the scratch. My Lexus needed a new windshield and my insurance recommended Safe-Lite. They showed up 3 times with the wrong windshield. Finally, after the 3rd time I contacted my insurance agent and they approved a Lexus windshield. The Lexus windshield was delivered to the dealer and they had a small local glass company install it the next day. Every time Safe-Lite brought the wrong glass I had to schedule another appointment several days out. I think for their mistake I would go to the top of the list for the next day. I complained to Safe-Lite about the lousy service but never heard anything from them.

as stated mine was for a C7 and it was oem based on the numbers on it.
Its going to happen again at some point. I would just get the aftermarket glass since there is little difference other then a little easter egg zora logo.
No safety system calibrations on the C8 to worry about. Take the money you saved now and in a few years (or before you sell the car) ,put a new, fresh OEM glass in it.
My 30k car is not chipped but pitted and its annoying me.
I'm close to throwing a fresh windshield in it so i feel better about the car and its a more enjoyable experience driving/washing it.
What does HUD have to do with the windshield? The HUD unit is on the dashboard.
It is, but it displays on the windshield and different windshields can have different properties that could reduce or even block most of the light put out by the HUD unit or otherwise affect it's performance. Some Windshields are specifically made or have areas of them made for HUD's.
