Default Help with PDR (performance data recorder)

Hi - thanks for taking a look. I just got a 128 Gb SD card to use for the PDR. ( I don’t know anything about these cards but i got it on amazon after I searched the questions for “corvette” and it came back with one result that one person said it worked fine on his 2020 Vette’s PDR, so l got it.) I’ve tried every search for PDR in the C08 forum but not finding anything for a beginner. If someone can point me to a good tthread, i would be very appreciative! ElSyd

what are you trying to do? The SD card has a slot next to the glove box for it to go into, and then in settings you should see a PDR option and it will walk you through the setup etc..

Put in the SD card then in the PDR look at the bottom and you can see your data left. I use a 128gb too and you can decide to record in HD or SD. Of
course HD uses more data. I need to plug it in my laptop and i can check in an hour how big the files get. Settings in the car are pretty easy to maneuver just check it out

Well, i got the SD card in and drove around a little bit. Came back home and shut off the engine and pulled the SD card out. I purchased the recommended San Disk SD reader, stuck the SD card in it, and voila! i had two videos, one when i stopped the car to get something and the second one from there to back home. I recorded without any sound.

I know they talk about overlaying engine speed, RPMs, etc on to the video, but could someone give me the cliff's note's version on that? They make it sound like i need to download a program from chevrolet.com? (Is that correct? even though i didn't opt to pay for any of the premium services like OnStar.... not sure if My Chevrolet is a premium service or not, but i do get monthly diagnostic reports from them on a monthly basis.)

Thanks for both of yalls help, ElSyd

You need to download and install the Cosworth Toolkit software that reads all the metadata recorded with the video.

That Cosworth toolkit looks like it will tell me info i don't even want to know! I just want something simple. There's bound to be some simple software for an average person who uses his C08 as a daily driver but would like to look at some video every once in a while. I'm not planning on entering a Nascar race where those drivers may need all of that info. Does chevy have some dumb it down software to manipulate exactly what i would like the PDR to see? Thx, ElSyd

Your best source of information regarding PDR is the owners manual that explains overlays etc. You do not need to down load any software if you view the recordings on the infotainment screen. Just select one. You can change what the overlays do including sound/no sound, vehicle speed, rpm etc. Your 128 GB should have room for a few 1000 miles and then you can set to overwrite but I just do a Format once a month or so. Thanks gdb.. What happens if you want to watch it on your computer? Anything special required to do tat. I do have an SD card reader and i can see the video on my monitor.
Are you telling me that if i select, say "Sport" while it is recording during a drive, that overlay will show up on my computer screen with no other software?

Why does the Owner's Manual want you to d/l their program for the PDR? has any one done so?

Thanks again for everyones input

I don't think you can modify the settings while driving but just set the options before driving so try Sport Setting for a few and then Normal etc.
You need an SD card reader (that you have) and then I copy the files onto my laptop. Windows 10 has a build in video editor so I use that to view or cut, The Cosworth toolbox has a whole lot of analysis settings but its overkill if you just want to watch your recordings rather than analyze max lateral Gs and corner by corner analysis. I did download it but then deleted.

Thanks for your help guys. I was able to see the video on my computer with the san disk reader. I then put the SD back in the car and did what gdb recommended from the manual. Once i get home i will see if the overlay worked. It looked like what the Owner's manual had so I think I am in good shape.

Thanks for everyone's help. ElSyd

Trying not to start a new thread but wandering off a little.

Is there a place to specify the maximum size of the mp4 files?

I pulled the SD card out today to create a snippet. The file was 4GB! My concern is not that they are filling up my SD card (512GB) but that the files are SO slow to load/transfer. I looked in the settings and just saw that I could specify either 480 or 1080. I don't want to go down to 480. My preference is to break the files every so many minutes, e.g. 3 minutes like my other cars' dashcams.

I don't recall reading about any such option.
