Had them get in my C7, not once, but twice. Each winter they loved the cabin air filter compartment. How they flattened out and squeezed in is beyond me.
One thing I learned from the research to why they were coming in is actually lawncare equipment. If you store seed or anything with grass clippings in your garage, they'll go after it.
In an another thread on this forum, someone posted a photo of what was found when the engine cover was removed on the HTC. The wires were not chewed in that case, or at least there was not immediate evidence of that. But that is what they do.

According to the instructors at Spring Mountain there is something in some of the cables that tastes sweet to rats, especially in the Mag ride shock cables. They put aluminum foil on the cables to keep the rats from chewing on them.
Same thing happened to my Jeep. Rodents made a nest under hood and chewed through some of the wiring. My C7, and later my C8 weren’t touched. I think the rodents just go for what seems like an easier target for them. After I got the Jeep fixed, I wrapped the wiring bundles with Honda Rodent Tape (around $40 on eBay or at your local Honda dealer). It’s infused with Cayenne Pepper and burns their little mouths. After wrapping the wires, the rodents never came back.

OP - sucks that the critters feasted on the wires in your C8. I have heard about the Honda rodent tape - and from what has been reported it seems to work well.

I have a few packets, I open the HTC and put one there, 2 underneath the car also on the top of each tire. I also purchase the dollar store version of "Pine Sol" and sprayed some near any potential garage entrance. This past winter Mickey & Minnie took up residence elsewhere, the smell wasn't overbearing.
Electronic traps work good, jelly beans/peanut butter. Glue traps are just inhumane, snap traps are unreliable, poison too slow. We get the big river rats where I am, the size of sneakers, electronic traps are the best for a quick kill.

I was in the garage the other day working on the lawn mower and a black Vole just sauntered by me just going about his business in my garage. 😡 The traps went out that evening! The mice have been bad this year my neighbor said he saw them frolicking around his yard in the fall.
