C7 had a number of folks where the steering assist electric motor stopped working. Ultimately the
unit had to be replaced. Some did fail while making a turn. The wheel could be turned but took a lot of force. No fun if making a turn to another road!

Default Same issue

I’m currently having the same issue.

I have a brand new 2023 C8 Z51 which has been running fine until I was given the same message the other day after starting my vehicle.

I’m not able to bring my vehicle in for service for about another week as the dealership is busy this time of year, so I’m hesitant to drive it until then.

Do you have any updates from when you had this issue, and were you able to drive your corvette during that time? Thanks!

I looked up the Service Power Steering No Assist Soon message in the 2020 Service Manual. I found only one DTC associated with that message. Here is some information on it:

DTC C1168
DTC Descriptor
Power Steering Malfunction Level 1
Circuit/System Description
The power steering system contains redundant torque and steering angle sensors in order to limit situations where total loss of assist occur. If a
malfunction occurs in only one of the two sensors, the power steering system will continue to provide steering assist.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition ON, Engine Running.
Power steering system voltage is 6-16V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
A hardware fault in one of the two torque and/or steering angle sensors is detected.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The driver information center displays the SERVICE POWER STEERING NO ASSIST SOON warning message.

FWIW, recall GM took a long time to fix the C7 steering failure issue. Appeared to me they were having a debate with Bosh who made the unit! Once they admit it's their fault (not where GM has the ground wire etc) they pay for everything, recall cost, dealer fix cost as well as supplying a new part.

If you haven't tried you CAN steer the car without power. Not easy but since my '34 street rod with a 502 cid BB doesn't have power steering, used to that! I would drive BUT not fast around corners, just in case! I have tried with engine off! If rolling, it's not terrible. But stopped it's like backing into a space at a car show with my street rod. PIA!

PS: Just a thought NOT even a suggestion. I never make Recommendations unless getting paid as a Consutant where required!

Not to a C8, but in 2017 my 2017 Z06/Z07 lost power steering at 26 miles, while going 60 mph. Turned out it was a damaged connector that happened to a handful of cars, the Bosch steering rack was replaced and never had another issue

Reading a little more, it looks like there should always be another DTC set when this one is set. Any chance you know if another DTC was set?
