I have stated many times how much I love my 21 C8...and that still is the truth.....BUT....if I was to just maybe nitpick on one ency teency button.

The door exit button....Most everything in the car (except the phone charging station, NOT a button) are ergonomically correct for my 5'7" 152 lb frame....everything feels very natural.....except for that one exit button.

Don't know about you, but if they could have installed that 4 inches forward....it would be SO much easier to locate. I know "wa wa wa wa wa"

But I'm just saying...in "my" perfect world...LOL

 

It feels perfectly normal to me. You grab the door handle and your thumb is in exactly the right position to push the button and push the door outward. Wouldn't it be super-awkward to be more forward than the door handle (not to mention the additional force required to open the door with the force being moved closer to the axis)? Or are you saying the whole door handle should be moved forward?

 

I’m not a fan of GMs electronic lock system at all. I honestly think it’s somewhat dangerous if one had to flee the car quickly in an accident or fire.

The button that bugs the Hell out of me is the one for the parking brake. GM couldn't have found a less convenient place for it if they tried.

Well, that's not really true, I guess. They could have put it inside the glove box.

 

That's the key, it's the thumb that pushes the button while the hand pushes the door! Some folks have complained it doesn't open by itself! Yep as they sell for street rods with electric doors, no exterior door handles, that use only a remote to open, like mine, some need a spring loaded door popper!

In my case, like a refrigerator door is hung to close by itself, my Street Rod doors are hung so they open when the solenoid activates the latch. If on one side of the car and hit the wrong door remote open key I can't run around to the other side fast enough to catch as it swigs wide open!


The fellow who did my interior didn't tell me what he planned. Saw the flames that match the interior when I picked it up!

 

Frankly I thought the brake activated when you shut the car off and it went into park! We're very flat in NE SC so never felt it move! Realized there was a switch when someone mentioned it's silly placement!

Forget the door opener button. I am shocked and stupefied GM went with the "wall" of A/C buttons. Completely unnecessary since you have all the controls simple and easy to access on the info screen. Most of us will press Auto and never touch the buttons again for the duration of ownership. C8 uses so many buttons I wonder who is button-deprived? Oh ....Tesla.

Yep I seldom use the center buttons except for heat. Like the steering wheel heat button on the wheel!

 

Not so flat where I am, and I hate the feel of the car rolling and bouncing off the parking pawl.

 

They still put the manual door release lever next to the seat right?

 

Yep everyone should learn where it is! In the C7 is was reported someone die because they didn't know that it was there!

 

It's a moot point for most in Florida, mid west and other places that have topography that makes the reason for a parking brake non existent. My Acadia is applying the electronic parking brake when I turn off the engine apx 30% of the time. Lawyers again I assume. Such a PIA. I realized that I can just drive off with more gas pedal, but....I don't I push the button. Obnoxious for no reason.

 

My question was rhetorical, but yes everyone should know where it is. The gentlemen who died was in a C6, but I've seen many a post from people literally in their vehicles asking "how do I get out my battery died".

hmm. 1. You're obviously using your phone to post on a discussion forum - try Google.

2. read your owners manual
3. remove the targa top
4. break a window when 1-3 above don't work
5. oh yeah there's a manual door release right next to my seat. Move up to number 1.

I do think the door release button takes a little getting used to especially if you're not regularly driving the Corvette.

The redundant wall of buttons is unnecessary and crowds the cabin. I find redundant buttons unnecessary in pretty much all applications, especially when one button is right below the other like in the case of a heated seat button directly below the infotainment screen that also has a heated seat tile.

 

Funny. Hate using my phone on the Forum! Seldom do, only when in town waiting for whatever! Typing with thumbs is foolish! That's why I usually post pics, have them in files on my Desktop (with 22 inch curved screen) and Laptop. Don't have them on my iPhone or iPad! In fact have my iPhone set to not receive calls or even Text beeps when moving. Spend all my driving time looking out for folks who are distracted to maintain my 63 year record of not having an accident with another car! Tough today!

Unlike most of the World today, not attached to my phone. When at home it stays plugged in to charge on the 1st floor near my C8 keys, not in my Man Cafe/Office/Gym where I spend most of my time. Be 80 in September and retired (well semi) 23 years, no need to have whoever reach me that quickly. Know it's not in vogue but I still use email and children and grandchildren send text messages I pick-up on my computers. Get an email telling me they were sent. Respond to those but seldom initiate! I had 2 C4s, a C6 and 2 C7s so recall someone died but apparently got the wrong generation!

 

Perhaps, but a very large part of the country, even in the flatlands, has hills. Even Florida has hills, if not very big ones. It doesn't take much of a slope to make the car roll and slam into the parking pawl. Since the parking brake on the C8 releases automatically (like on your Acadia), even an automatically applied PB isn't really be a problem. But I'm not asking for it to be applied automatically. I'm just asking for the button to be place where it can actually be useful for those who want to use it.

 

I have no issues with opening the doors on my C8. The handles and buttons work fine for me and in a perfect world they are perfect for me.
I can’t wait to read the next real world C8 issue. It seems that this forum needs to be renamed “Corvette nit pickers forum “.

 

FWIW, that "automatic brake release" didn't work well on my M7 C7. My 1st a 2014 tried it several times. Once with some effort it worked. However backed out of the garage the car stalled. Then I gave it more throttle and with a loud bang it released. However the red "parking brake engaged" dash light was on. Restarted several times in the driveway when the parking brake was off (car rolled on slight slope) BUT dash light was still on. Was that way all the way to town. Thought this would be a trip to the dealer. But when I started the car coming back from town, dash warning was off! Never tried that again in the 2014 C7 or my 2017 Grand Sport! Have not thought about trying in my C8!

We're flat in NE SC like FL. We were all under the ocean years ago! What is funny, coming from CT 37 years ago where it was all rocks, there is not a pebble in the ground where we live. Sand or clay- zero pebbles. Unfortunately there are a lot of the rural roads where I am as we import pebbles and rocks from NC to pave some roads and shoulders! It pulls onto the main rural roads! Need side skirts!

Never ran into that on my 2015, but I almost never used the automatic release. Don't use it on the C8 very often either, but occasionally forget to release the EPB with the button, and the auto release seems to work fine.
