Default Launch Mode 2023 C8 Stingray

Just received my 2023 C8 Stingray w/Z51 pkg. Is the launch mode now only avail on the 2023 Z06 or does the Stingray still have it as well. I keep getting Launch Mode not avail so either I'm doing something wrong (which would not be the 1st time) or it was removed effective with the 2023 Stingray. TIA

The C8 limits torque in low gears for the first 500 miles, so it probably locks out launch mode during that period to prevent idiot owners from breaking the car.

It's possible you're doing something wrong. Is it brand new or used? How many miles?

If its brand new its probably not even broken in yet. If that's the case, then yes, yes you are doing something wrong.

It is still there but we need more information. You’ve already put 500 miles on, so you are no longer torque-limited by the firmware, or rpm limited, correct? And you have followed the owners manual instructions for getting into launch mode, correct? Are you in Sport or Track? If Track, what PTM mode?

Brand new, now has 50 miles on it. Big difference from the 60 Corvette I had.

I've tried it in Track, no luck then Sport. I'll go thru the video's again and try to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Right now I'm just burning gas and getting more confused by the minute, got to regroup.

First car is not even broken in . 500 miles to break in C8 , second 1,500 miles recommended for track use. Some recommend 1,500 miles for launching car . Need to read manual . If not good luck .

You should wait until you have 1,500 miles on the car before doing launches. or at least past the 500-mile break-in. And yes the car has it.

Hmm, have you tried the Rev Limiter??? GM says and shows a Red band on the Tach at 4000 rpm and says don't exceed for 500 miles. It can't stop stupid BUT does warn!
The DCT and dif gears also need the 500 mile break-in as gears mesh and remove small high spots that can overheat and create soft spots.
Tires would not be happy slipping slighlty on a hard launch! Best wear off high spots driving "reasonably," initially.
Smashing brakes after to slow not a good idea for 500 miles either.

The delivery tech showed me how to enter launch mode when I picked up my '21, so it worked then, don't know about now.

Perhaps the 2023 locks you out of launch mode until 500 miles unlike the 2020 thru 2022.

IT appears you have a LOT of reading/research to do on your new car. It is VERY VERY different that your previous model.

For your own SANITY peruse these boards looking for BREAK IN PROCEDURES, UPDATE PROCEDURES, FIRST OIL CHANGE, FIRST DCT FILTER CHANGE, Z51 PERFORMANCE PKG, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

It appears you are attempting to do LAUNCH CONTROL prior to the 500 mile break-in....NO

Hell, there are still some discussions if that action is a "TRACK" type of action prompting you to wait till 1500 miles. Whether the extra 2-quarts of DCT fluid should be added prior to, and many many more.

It really pays to be as knowledgeable as possible with these cars to get full enjoyment out of them.

Good Luck!

I have always done my break in like I'm going to drive it in everyday life, except for my 2021 HTC. I resisted for the first 500 miles to ... Drive it like I stole it...but after that its just to much fun to punch it when I'm the only car around me. Now have 11000 miles and have not had any problems with DTC or Engine.
Please wait until you are past 500 miles to do Launch control ... or .... drive it like I stole it.

According to the 2023 Owner's Manual, yes you have it. Although the manual specifically says do not use Launch Control until the "break-in " period is complete, some have reported doing it at less than 500 miles on prior models, so it was not locked out during break in, in those cases. I did not see anything in the 2023 manual about it being locked out during break in. In the process of checking this in the 2023 Owners Manual, I discovered something that my 2021 does not have - "Custom Launch Control". I don't know if its unique to Z06 or not, but there are some menu settings to customize it ("if equipped"). Here is the Launch Control section from the 2023 Manual. I did not include the Custom Launch Control section but it follows this section in the manual.

Definitely and lot of reading and understanding to accomplish but Good God I was just asking a question and never had the intention of actually performing a Launch on my new C8 with 50 miles on it, just wanted to make sure it is there when the time comes. Somewhere in the past and possibly it was just speculation, I had read that for the 2023 models GM was going to limit the Launch Mode exclusively to the Z06, guess that's not the case but when I got the response Launch Not Available I couldn't help but think maybe that was true but apparently it's not. You guys come up with good information and I appreciate your help and sharing your knowledge. Thanks

Cliff Notes on lauching:
Make sure you are in Track or Sport mode.
Hit compettion mode button twice so two yellow lights come up on dash.
Press hard on brake, keep steering wheel straight.
Then hit the gas to full throttle and rpms should build to 3500 rpm and hold.
Once at 3500 rpm, quickly release brake.

BTW: I waited until after 1500 miles and engine oil/filter change to perform launch control. It's not so much engine break-in, but DCT break-in.

+1 on please wait at least past hte 500 mile break in.

But having said that - 99.99% of people (including me) who first tried launch mode didn't press the brake pedal hard enough. You've got to jam that thing like you are trying to put your foot thru the floor. Just pressing the brake pedal "hard" won't engage it. You have to PEG LEG that ****.

have fun
